It's not about the amount of money he earns, it about whether he has enough spare money to support you. For example he could be living for nothing with parents or in a house he owns outright, or he could paying a lot of money on rent/mortgage for a large expensive house.

People have had visas granted when their income is a lot less than £18500, but I also suspect there have been others who earn more than that who have been refused.

    hi..darren-b

well..he is living on his own...and he is renting from Local authority..and he got some papers aswell, together with some certificates and a letter from the Council that I am allowed to stay in his 1 bedroom flat. do you think that would be okay then? he is spending at least 500 pounds every month of all the bills. and he got 700 pounds left to keep him going??...

If he's got £700 left over after he's paid his rent for the month, as long as he doesn't have any other major expenses or debts to pay off, I think that should be plenty enough for you both to live on.

    hi there IainBusby..

well Im pretty sure that he doesn't have any of those..but 700 pounds though minus the money he needs to send to me every month....lol and oh?? just 1 more thing, he doesn't have any savings coz of our situation..(we've been together for 3 years since 2006) he's been here in the philippines 5 times already...

    1. he send me money every month
    2. he visited me in the philippines twice a year and stayed here for 2-3 months
    3. he then again back and visited me again last 6th of june 2009 but not stayed for too long coz of his work

( I mean I hope it shows that he must have savings by now if Not with LDR situation, and that would stop if were together)...

Q: you think its okay if he doesn't have any savings

it would be better if he had savings
but as long as you can show that you are able to support yourselves financially on your income you should be ok, thou without savings your risk of refusal may increase. After paying rent or mortgage and council tax you should have a minimum of £100.95 left per week.
