    Citizenship question

    For a change I'm asking a question

Elsa is about to send off the application for British Citizenship, everything is fine, but her Philippines passport runs out in December. Would it be a problem? Average processing times for Citizenship is 6 months, but this dependant on how complex the application is - although in Elsa's case it's very straightforward. All I'm worried about is that if they hold her passport during processing beyond the passport expiry date will she be still legal or not? Or should we just sit it out and wait?

simple solution. She should apply through the Nationality Checking Service (NCS). Her passport will be returned to her straight away after being photocopied. for more info click this link

after her passport is photocopied, then renew the passport before the expiry date.

Ah yeah, forgot about NCS, only problem is there isn't one near us, but if it means she will get her passport back for it be renewed in time for December, thats a better idea. Thanks!

Joebloggs (or anyone else recently granted citizenship) Whats the processing times like for Citizenship these days? And is NCS quicker than sending it by post?

NCS is no quicker than sending it by the post. The only difference being as they check it you are less likely to have it returned or a request for more information because it's incomplete. So it you fill it in correctly it makes no difference.

rob my misses filipino passport expired a year ago

we used the Ncs in march becuase she needed her passport back for an exam,

it took about 4wks after we been to the ncs to get her letter of approval, and i think another week or so after that to get a letter from the council stating when the citizenship ceremony would be, and that was probably 2 wks wait, so it took near 2 months from going to the ncs to getting her citizenship cert.

you dont need to ncs, only good becuase they check your app and give you all your docs back.
