Like you I took a week off when my wife first arrived in the UK and because I didn't want her to be stuck in the house when I returned to work, I made a point of taking her into town on the bus, showing her around so she could get her bearings from most of the shopping areas, find her own way back to the appropriate bus stop, get off at the right bus stop and then find her way back home from there.
