    booking the flight

Its been a long road to get to this stage, but finally got the fiancee 6month visa and the CFO, just need to book the flight so we can meet in London. I was hoping to pay for the flight by credit card, but been finding the message
"The credit card used for payment must be presented at time of check-in or when collecting the tickets. The airline reserves the right to deny boarding or collect a guarantee payment (in cash or from another credit card) if the card originally used for the purchase cannot be presented by the cardholder
at check-in or when collecting the tickets" and obviously my fiancee won't have my credit card to show at checkin. The only other option i see is to send the money over and get her to buy the ticket over there in Cebu, if anyone got any other suggestions they would be really welcome. Thanks

To avoid all that palaver I sent the money over after I scouted for the best price available.
In the end, My wife went to Qatar airways office in Cebu and bought a one way ticket to Manchester.

    Good luck.

It seems that Qatar airlines are quite strict on this, but other airlines such as KLM and Cathay don't seem to bother.
I've booked Marvie a flight with Qatar for next time she comes over, but booked via Greenbee, so not sure whether the same requirement will be in place, however she has the card we used to book anyway as I have an additional HSBC account which I use to transfer money to her. Will let you know!

    ... this is incorrect.

If u book via a third-party here in the UK (eg Opodo, Asda travel etc), it is
they that take "responsibility" for validating your credit card.

In this case, the credit card is "vouched" for by the agent in the UK, so no
requirement to present it when checking-in in Manila.

HOWEVER...... after booking via an agent / website in the UK, you will need
to contact the relevant airline (eg QATAR), and give them the passport No.
of your wife/fiance.... which they will cross check against her passport when
    she does check-in.
(If memory serves me.... either the airline or the agent alsosend her an e-mail
    asking for this info).

So, YES you can book a ticket by your Credit Card from here in the UK.

If my memory serves me right, we had examples of people refused checking-in and boarding......

When we fly to the US, they only check our passports now, not the CC we booked with. They used to, but haven't for over a year now.

    Yes .... agreed it's happened,
but if u delve deeper, it's usually that the CFO wasn't in the passport
(so the airline picks up the tab to fly them back),
.. or the flight was booked DIRECT with the airline company.

I am merely stating the facts for third-party bookings ie via a travel agency,
    flight broker, multi-web site.

I read this thread and thought i would have to pay a lot of money by sending a large amount through western union or using banks. After finding out that using banks would not be a quick option, so i call the airline (Singapore airlines= cheapest airline and from what i read also a good reputation)
The airline tells me that i will save 100 pound by booking online, not a problem i reply, but can you tell me if it is ok for me to book the flight using my visa card in England for my girlfriend who is in the Philippines. The guy on the phone tells me it is fine and all i need to do is to goto Manchester airport in advance to the departure of Manila flight and have my visa card varified there at Manchester airport. But this worries my girlfriend, so what should i do
I am thinking if i get some comfirmation in writing or printout that my visa card has being varified there at Manchester airport and scan it and e-mail it and if she prints that out to takes with her for her check in and departure it should be ok....
Should i go ahead with the booking? anyone, whats your advice and thinking on this matter

The guy on the phone is right. I had exactly the same problem when I booked Elsa a one-way from Manila to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific (but it was back in 2005). I went to Cathay's airport office at Heathrow and they verified the card and changed the flight booking status to confirmed, and voila, no problems. Luckily I was flying out to HK on the same day, so all I needed to do was make my way over to Terminal 3 to Cathay's office, then back to T1 for my BA flight to HK. Singapore have an office at Manchester airport, so you would be ok, but I would check with them directly at the airport.

Just do what SIA say, verify the card at the airport ASAP after booking. It is only to verify the transaction is not fraudulent.

When booking the flight on line, i got this.........
You are not required to present the Credit/Debit Card used for this booking for verification nor submit a Letter of Indemnity (LOI).

That's what I said earlier, as they seem to be leaving the CC companies to do the fraud checks now. Give the UK office a call though just to verify....and get the air miles

Your paying for them every time you buy a ticket. Me & wifey went to Florida for free 2 years ago, and we'll be going to Vegas for free next year

Get one of those pre-paid Mastercards with your wife as an additional card holder... DHL it across (£20 via DHL document express).. and pay for the ticket using the card number that is in your wife's name.

We've been using the Virgin one for just this kind of situation. We learned the hard way after my wife was refused boarding by PAL because she could not provide them with a copy of my card and passport. (Like I'd be silly enough to allow that info into free circulation in the Phils!)
