Hi. My wife has just recieved her passport. (first} on the passport is her christian name. Her family name. And of course my name (spouse) she is jumping for joy she can now apply for her family visa. But on her birth certificate and marriage contract. She is using her mothers maiden name as her middle name. This maiden name is no longer on her passport. She told me this is quite normal in the philippines. I am a little concerned. And we have had some crossed words.
Can anybody advise

i understand your concern but my wife did the same and shes here with me on a spouse visa

i guess you need to say sorry after your cross words

i dont know why they use there surnames as middle names,i keep telling my wife she is mrs mary smith and not mrs mary cruz smith

This is normal for the Philippine Embassy to do when applying for a passport unless you sepcifically tell them NOT to do it. If you want to make life easier, you can apply for a correction on the passport, takes about a week.

Congratulation ! She must be overwhelmed , i dont see any problem with that( but one thing confused me is when you said she can now apply for her family visa?) what type of visa are you referring to?

my wife is only visiting uk for a short time, maybe 8/10 weeks. i will return with her. we have no plans to settle in uk at the moment. so a family visa is the simpler way i believe for her to come here. i must say she is finding it very hard to understand the application. Every step is hard for her to understand. But we will get there in the end.

Thats more or less what we did as well - chatting over YM while filling in the form online - saved us a lot of trouble

all the best for you. Yes the application sometimes is not very clear, I had the same problem when I applied fiancee visa but with God's mercy I am now with my husband and working toward a goal to get our children.

I went on line and looked at the application forms to download. visa4uk website. But i could not find a form for a spouse visa, only family, entertainer, etc. Maybe i missing something. Also my wife said that her friends husband filled the online application in for her here in uk while she in phils. Is this a wise thing to do? I could do it for her saving a lot of trouble, then i could print it and send it to her. But i think my wife has to learn, she not finish high school and not very computer friendly. I am sure she could do it, but scared she might make a mistake cos she not really understand it.

same as mine im still using my mother middle name but im not worried about it coz this is what i want in my name of my british passport. if she is happy to use it then leave it, there's no problem on it.

Good idea, download the form, fill it in, scan it, attach the scanned pages to an email and then send it to her. If you save the scanned pages as jpeg files, you could even give them to her in yahoo messenger via the photo sharing app.
