JimOt - Thanks Jim for the welcome! This will soon be the Jim forum!

Gary2J - To be honest I have been very homesick for the things back home.

-I have missed my home comforts that we can't get here on this island. Eg:Microwaves. -British TV.
-I miss not being bitten thousands of times every day.
-I miss english speakers (native ones that is) . . .
    -I miss kebabs and baltis.
-I miss having other beers available other than San Mig and Beer na Beer.
    -I miss clean air.
-I miss not being begged from every day!
-I miss not having brownouts or water suddenly stopping, or cable signal suddenly stopping in the middle of a show.
-I miss not running around looking for cockroaches to kill!
-I miss all my old friends
-I miss british style fish and chips
-I miss real spaghetti - not the filipino red sugary stuff
    -I miss wholewheat bread
    -I miss Direct Debits lol
    -I miss Waterstones, WHSmiths
    -I miss real english tea!
-I miss my local chinese takeaway and Domino's Pizza.
-I miss getting to sleep without constant dogs barking
-I miss not having to listen to constant OA tagalog telenovelas
-I miss not hearing about WHITENING CREAM!
-I miss having an identity aside from Joe, Foreigner, Americano (there are white ppl who don't come from america ... that's how the whiteys got to america in the first place).
-I miss being able to drink the tap water without diaorrohea

There are many things I will miss from the Philippines also but the most important

    -My asawa

Yep lots of Jim's here now

I can understand a lot of your points, you can't get a decent Indian curry anywhere in the Phils but I am surprised you miss your local Chinese but maybe where you are there is not the cosmopolitan variety of Asian food you get in Manila, Chinese food in Manila is fantastic in my opinion.

The one that gets me most is the "Hey Joe"! I always smile and say "Not American" "Hindi Americano" in my poor attempt at tagalog.

Hope things work out when you get back and that you get your asawa over here with you fairly soon!

I rather envy you that you were able to spend a whole year there in one go. I've spent a year of my life there too but in a somewhat fragmented fashion.

Jim. actually, in my mouth, my local chinese was even better than when we went to Hong Kong

ya, I say "dili ko amerikano" (in bisaya here), yet, they just laugh and say "Amerikano Ka"! It's like there's 2 types of people on this earth.

    1)Amerikano's
    and
    2)Filipinos!

like I said before, it's a matter of Heducation!

    Thanks for your lovely thoughts

    bless you Jim

    in fact,
    Bless ALL Jims

    hehehehe Amen to that

    Aye Arthur you're included too

Yep I suppose they suffer for having been invaded and occupied by the Americans for so long, my Filipino mates are not terribly fond of the Americans.

I also knew one American lad over there, a drummer, a good one at that, who at first seemed pretty nice but then we met him trying to get a taxi and he was giving the finger to the locals cursing and swearing at them as well, not exactly going to endear himself to the locals that way :(

In part that's why I stress the "Hindi ko amerikano" (I forgot the letter c does not exist over there ) when I get the "Hey Joe"
