... CAN it take from the onset of contractions until 'the average' woman is delivered of her baby?
My daughter - who lives in a small rural community - called me quickly yesterday lunchtime to say she and her husband were about to set off on the 30-mile journey to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital ... where she's booked in for the birth of her second child.
Naturally enough, I've been on tenterhooks ever since ... having slept very little in the past 24 hours [which explains my unusually high (even for me!) nocturnal input to the forum.]
Thing is, she's 40 years old. And this will be her first experience of 'natural childbirth' - her little boy (now 3) having been born by Caesarean Section. Her "due date" was Sunday past. But it was only yesterday that her labour pains began to manifest themselves.
I'm still waiting anxiously with the phone at my side ... expecting it to ring at any moment ...

According to the proud Dad, both mother and daughter are doing fine ... though Fiona, understandably [in Dean's words] is "feeling knackered" after being in labour for nearly 30 hours.
mind you, Fiona's baby was four days' late!
