    Home or Away

Hello everyone! I am starting this thread HOME or AWAY. I will start with a premise that - Home - Philippines and Away- UK

If you are Filipino/Naturalised British home is Philipppines
If you are Native/British living in the Philippines home is UK

It would be interesting to know where will you spend your retirement, home or away? I dont mean, where do you wish but where will you really retire, be specific Philippines or UK and why? And what could be the age of retirement for you? Others go earlier than the retirable age.

Spain,by the time I retire Pinas population will have doubled, slightly crowded I would imagine, not my idea of fun

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

Whatever happened to Home or Away? I think bless should come up with a different title to the thread - HOME OR AWAY OR SOMEWHERE ELSE

this is a very nice thread hoping that it will not come to a point of comparing UK and Phil (like night and day) again as it causes friction. Considering that most of us Pinays here are married to Brit it shows a "bond" taking our relationship as an example. What brought us here to UK (for those who are in a relationship/engaged or married to Brit) is love and simply by taking a vow we promised to be with them till death so Phil or UK as long as together it really doesnt matter.

I wish everyone a good day.
If it's not life threatening IGNORE it .. .

    well said sis
I agree completely, what's important is you're together, be it in uk or philippines or some place else, as long as its a mutual decision of the couple

Hello again jaishann! Thank you for your comment. I do not wish that on this thread. I am not comparing UK/PHILIPPINES here. I am trying to draw out your feelings being married to Brit/Filipinos and where will you go/stay when retirement is looming. Have you ever thought about it? Yes, it doesn't matter where, but sooner or later we will have to choose one, where we will live and stay permanently. What is the ideal place when you come to the age - where you are no longer capable?

Hello Sophie! Yeah, I agree with you. I only have two choices and both tawi2 and JH mentioned something else. . I would like to stick to the title and would like to stick to the topic.
I know a few who are nearly retiring and faced with the dilemma. One couple I know sad, wife will go back home, husband will stay here in UK. I do not want that to imagine.

it would make more sense and be less provincial! The initial post assumes that we will either spend our retirement in UK or Phils, what if we decide we want to spend it in guatemala?

My first post was just to get the picture in with blackpool vs jamaica!

And, I can see that BB is sharing her professorial level of logical deduction. Tawi said Spain - OK, that's a tick in the "UK" column!

Chill out chick, first of all, this could be a poll ...

secondly, I posted my facetious response just to post the picture. I'm 27, ask me about retirement in 35-40 years from now!

And, please laugh, and read my sig

Hello tawi2! You're probably right about being overcrowded. Oh, I would like Spain myself. But you only have two choices - UK or Philippines - I will take UK as your answer. About what age?

Not yet ready to live like king and Queen.

I still like Philippines, here if your old you will just wait the heaven in old nursing home waiting for god, while in the philippines (just avoid the noise and humid) stay away from Manila will be fine, have walked every morning in a sorrounded by tress, making fire through the dried leaves and sit on a rope tie on the tress, listen to the chicken tik tilaok, dog running around the backyard, ahhh what a nice life in philippines.

Ok I will be fair, if your retire here in the UK,you had money from govt. sometimes go town by car, used wheel chair or the electric car for old people, going ASDA/TESCO and if your children no longer look for you, they will sent you to nursing home or you will stay all by yourself in your house, cant get out everyday during winter cause you will feel cold, athritis.almoranas will attack during cold (this partly joke) no ants, no coakroaches, no mosquitoes

My choice: Philippines, life was happy down there indeed.

September, I do think that you're very homesick, and from the general timber of your posts, it seems like you do not much like UK! So, when are you going back to Philippines next?

Yes, I am homesick, unfortunately but trying to be patience as I am shy to my fiancee, as he spend lots of money and effort to bring me here.

And Bornabirth its just so happen that I am very observant whether I will stay here after the marraige or live in Philippines, and when I was young I worked in goverment so I managed to had my private pension plan and active the GSIS as well, I am working in Congress for 15 years, and file for 6 months leave, and so I need to decide after 6 months whether I will live here or carry on working to my boss in congress.

Well, speaking as someone who has lived in the both countries, I would suggest that if you're gonna stick around the UK that you learn to like it - or even love it - otherwise, you'll be unhappy the whole time, and that's no way to start a marriage.

That's just some advice from my own experience.

Hi september, you are quite a good observer, keep it up
And being homesick is normal, specially for someone like you who's just been here a little over a week....
By the way, what department/division in Congress are you working for, if you don't mind?
I have a close friend who works in congress, you probably bump into each other already

Hello September! Wow, so more or less you are sorted out. That is really amazing -pension plans and all that. Working at home is quite a bit establish in a sense that - working at private/government, there is a pension scheme, no matter how little.

You seem so homesick September. Knowing you just arrived in this country last month. Is this your second time on a visit/tourist visa? You seem not excited being in this beautiful country. I just noticed it unlike Queenbee and some members they are sooooo excited and i know how it feels because I was in the same situation before.

You're right i agree with your statements about getting old here they will stay in the home for the aged. There are advantages and disadvantages staying in the nursing home. But sometimes it is better to be with the same age group and being accepted, taken cared of and needed rather than being with relatives and not to feel the same.
