After finally adding her to the BT bill we went to Barclays and as her passport is also still in maiden name, showing our Philippine marriage certificate was OK.

thats why you need to change the wifes name in her passport before she leaves for the uk,my wifes passport needed to be renewed so she got her name changed too.

I have said this before but maybe there are some who did not see the post.

Anyone can change their name, first name and / or surname, in UK by simple saying, “As of now have changed my name to ..... “ (A right under Common Law)

The only situations are that I cannot choose a name which would make it appear I have a title to which I have no right. For example:- Lord John, Sir John, King John etc. and one cannot change their name for a dishonest purpose. Apart from that, yu can cal yourself wast you like.

I changed my name about 30 years ago. I got new passport in my new name and everything was changed to that name, except my Birth Certificate, that cannot be changed.

So you girls when you get married, if you want to keep your name, that's fine you DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE IT. However, if you want the same name as your husband, maybe tell him you would prefer he changes his name to yours.
