Tier 2 working visa appeal how long?

how long would an appeal take if an entry clearance was refused by UKBA in Manila? What are the other alternatives for the nurses sponsored by an NHS hospital? Can they re-apply for a visa or just wait for the result of the appeal?

Might be wrong but I thought appeals may take several months (or maybe even a bit longer).

They could just re-apply but if they do not meet the criteria for a visa then they probably will be wasting their time and money as they will likely to get refused again for the same reason.
