    Question Registration cert

Is it necessary for my fiance to have a registration certificate? I am thinking that it might be needed for our application. He's a Polish national living in UK for more than 5 years now. Hope you could help me with this.

    Hi,
not necessarily as registration certificates are issued on completely voluntary basis.
This is what UKBA pages are saying about it:

A registration certificate is a document, issued to EEA or Swiss nationals, that confirms their right of residence under European law. You do not need to have a registration certificate to enter, live in or work in the United Kingdom.

source: UKBA - Applying under European law

It is better to have one as it will make things bit more clear and straightforward for ECO when assessing your application, but on the other hand it is really LOOONG way to get one as he would have to wait for it for some 4 - 6 months - they are not very quick to issue them.
It is just enough for him to prove that he's living permanently in UK (exercising his rights as citizen of EEA state) - National Insurance Number, letter from employer, tenancy agreement etc... - you have to supply these documents with your application anyway. Just tell him to state clearly in his letter of support that he's living in UK permanently and his circumstances.
Good luck to you, no worries
