Depends on the contract terms you are on, as if you are on 12 months and cancel early all companies will charge you till the end.
I take it you're talking about Virgin, if you'd have phoned them up to discuss changing they probably would have offered you to stay with them for a 50% reduction in the monthly rate, or doubled your services, that is how it works.
