    hey guys,

im currently here in UK with fiancee visa, is it possible to work as a volunteer to any charity institutions? I know i am not allowed to work and no recourse to public funds but I mean i wont be receiving anything from them, i just want to spend my time and i dont want to stay at home.. With this, i'll be able to meet new friends...

Hope you can help me since i had a preliminary arrangements with possible volunteer work with one of the charity here.. I want to be corrected..

I am not sure but haven't heard any member under fiancee visa doing volunteering job.

I applied volunteering job but it takes more than two months to approve because they need to check my background in Pinas. I had my interview at home and not in their office. It took an hour to finish. One thing more, I need to undergo my training course for that. Maybe it depends upon what voluntary job you'll do that's why it takes ages for me to start.

    [QUOTE]

... yes it IS [sad] And, to be honest, I've never really been able to fathom why this should be the case since, in the strictest sense,*voluntary work (as its very *name implies) encompasses ALL task/s undertaken WITHOUT remuneration ... unless, of course, out-of-pocket expenses, e.g. travel costs are reimbursed. Besides a spell as a 'volunteer' can, in many instances, prove extremely beneficial in terms of providing an ideal 'training ground' for the future ... when a person would be eligible to take up paid employment.

That seems so stupid. The only thing I could think might be the reason is that one could work in some circumstances and get paid 'cash in hand' but if discovered to be working to claim it was voluntary. Say like working as a waitress. No work of any sought would block that possible loop hole.

In Spain I want my wife to learn enough Spanish to help me when I am working as a volunteer. She has applied for Spanish nationality and I would think that working as a volunteer with the police would be looked upon as very favourable when she is questioned as why they should grant the request.

Exactly that - the owner of the chinese restaurant that I sometimes eat in had some visitors over from China who were staying with him. The BIA raided the restaurant and when the visitors were found to be working they claimed they weren't being paid, and they had 'volunteered' to help the owner just to repay his hospitality. He was fined a lot of money and the visitors were deported back to China.
