a very strange phone call.....

Hi folks,

I just received a strange phone call and I wanted to find out if other members of this forum had received similar calls.

I heard a young lady with a slight Filipino accent telling me in English she called from a phone company in the Phils (unfortunately I could not get the name clearly) and wanted to find out if there was any Filipina living here with me. I said no and she just said good-bye.

Does that sound familiar to anyone here? I should add that there was a slight background noise typical of call centers, but I am curious to find out what she wanted really and also, taking into account the time difference, it was over 01.00 AM in the Philippines..... If there had been a Filipina here, what would have been the deal????

I had that a few weeks ago one night when my wife was at work. They are calling from Philippines selling some sort of unlimited phone service, it didn't sound bad but I told them to call back later in the year. I guess they got our number from us filling in cards at the Barrio Fiesta.

i wouldnt be surprised if someone at the visa center wasnt making a few quid on the side selling names and addresses to companies, they do it all the time in foreign call centers

Doubt it Bingo card at Barrio Fiesta or suchlike is my guess they are calling UK numbers and asking if there is a Filipino there. I'm not fussed it is harmless compared with UK Rogue Traders cold calling

Had something similar a few weeks back, selling phone cards - £15 a year for unlimited calls I think it was. It would have been about 2am phil time when they called.

i had a call a couple of weeks ago but it was virgin media call centre in the philippines and yeah they are trying to sell their stuff to you.
