I've just switched from Virgin to BT in the uk. 3rd party numbers prices are quoted at BT prices, and so I've been told, are stable, whereas Virgin prices tend to change and often cannot reach certain numbers as easily as BT. Not sure if this is true, but many of my Chinese friends swear by BT.
The cheapest way is maybe to buy a netbook (£100 from HMV) and pay a 900-2000 pesos internet charge for Philipine gf. Long term this would save money and make talking easier for both. No interent cafe bills, no phone calling bills and crystal clear calls via Skype.
