I could take you to colleges located above rows of shops, you look up,see the "College" sign and just shake your head The country is flooded with bogus students,I have met loads, normally african, but they sure didnt come here to study, got a mate from Zimbabwe, used to work every hour god made and more beisdes while here as a student, his wife and kids are here now,did he come here as a legitimate student? Not according to him

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

Very true it was said to me by one owner of a school in central london that half of Londons rental space above shops would be empty and the very shops and resturants below them would suffer if the colleges and all the no question asked cheap to employ employees dissapeared
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

Yup,I saw one in Hounslow last year and thought it looked a prestigiously located seat of learning, you know....Oxford,Cambridge,Hounslow??????? Its true,it was right above a row of shops several of which were indian restaurants I sometimes wonder if the government view this country through a 100% lightproof blindfold, the general populance see whats going on,the ivory towers of westminster havent got a clue

I wonder what slippery Immigration Minister Phil Woolas has got to say ? He's the grub who put ladies' clothing, tampons, comics and nappies on his expenses

I think he's really a secret correspondent for the Daily Express, sent here to spread the tory doctrine and dish the dirt on labour. Either that or he's turning into Victor Meldrew.

Tory, Labour ... or whatever ... they're all politicians. And, let's be frank, there's good, bad and ... the third lot [the majority, it seems!] who're just indifferent - regardless of WHICH party they claim allegiance to.

Gordon Brown had a ceremony today at No.10 to show off the new portrait of Thatcher. He can't even remember what party he's in!!

    Hey listen..
If it wasnt for Maggie allowing me to buy my council flat I would never have been able to get on the property ladder, make a 400 % profit and then purchase my first house as millions of Brits were given the opportunity to do..
Thank God for Maggie Thatcher!! Woman was a Goddess.

i thought social housing/council housing was for people who couldn't afford to buy , yes millions did buy, you be stupid not buy when you could get it for half price or less , and you wonder why there is a shortage of council/housing association houses , maybe it wouldn't have been such a bad idea, if the money was spent on building new houses instead of tax cuts for the rich

Joe you missed the point as The UK`s GDP obviously aint
assisting it to recover from a long and lingering recession!!
A year ago I really thought that the P.I and the Peso would be suffering big time by now..
Obviously I was wrong as the economy has been growing for the last 30 odd months.

i thought social housing/council housing was for people who couldn't afford to buy
Well I certainly couldn't afford to buy at the time and it would have stayed that way if I hadn't have received the discounted right to buy price..
The spring board that helped me change my life and future prosperity..
    Whats wrong with that?

I dont blame anyone who got on the property ladder this way .

The problem as I see it was twofold

Artificial scarcity drives up prices, for example a three bed terraced house in Totnes valued at £168,000 has a rebuild price for insurance purposes of £66,500 meaning over £100,000 is "created" in value in the "planning permission" which is controlled by a combination of Central and Local Government without regard to everyone's need to live some where, and with no actual wealth having been created.

Second the money from those sales was not applied to creating the next generations right to do the same hence the near impossibility for non sub-prime mortgages for first time buyers which leads us to the mess we are all now in

Again a bubble is starting to form and many still think propety prices are not right. Some of the dodgy goings on I have seen in out local area as I keep a keen eye on the propety market and from what i read in other areas with places which were never up for sale or let being advertised as deals gone though locally
Is making people think they had better move now. Strangely many of these houses deals dont appear in the land registery data once released
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

Quite right, if 100% of the money from the sale of council houses had been ploughed back into building new coucil houses and had continued on that basis it would have gone a long way to preventing the starter home housing shortage that drove prices through the roof. Unfortunately the Thatcher government inherant hatred and distrust of local authorities combined with their free market, devil take the hindmost ethos ensured that they would not be allowed to spend this money in such a way.
