There also used to be a really good place next door called Rendezvous which is also gone for the same reason.
Malate is great for live and often acoustic/unplugged music, we once found a great wee pub that had some excellent folk musicians but we lost it again and still have not found our way back, trouble with getting taxi's too often
This guy was also good and performed his own songs (also Hobbit House)
There are also two separate good acoustic places just a few yards before and after Bedrock just after Cafe Adriatico at Remidios Circle.
