Section 5 - nothing to add, help

Hi, I just booked flights to go and support my husband to apply for a spouse visa in February, any advice for section 5 (his circumstances)- since I left the philippines in July he has lived with 4 brothers and a sister, working with one farming the family land, one is working on a cock farm (some finanical input) and the other 3 are at school - he has no regular income, certainly not that goes through the tax system - if there is produce to sell, then they sell it, buy some food and start again, sometimes they do odd days of cash work - he is there to help develop the farm and spend time with his family before (fingers crossed) coming over here - whats the best and most honest way to complete this section? I have not regularly sent any money since i returned to UK

Sorry dashing about today so not had time to remeber what section 5 is.

If i remeber correctly for my wife it had a section to write any more to write.

Which basically said please refer to my wifes cover letter.

She wrote a cover letter with my help, which described why she should have the visa (basically like the sponsors cover letter) that it would be easier for you to be together in the UK due to your commitments in the UK. His family would be ok with out him what skills he would have if he decided to work although you could support him so he did not need recourse to public funds.

For my wife i talked about her English skills how she had taken a course, that she with the help of me had done research on the area she was to live in with me and there was plenty of places where work might be avaiable.

Some people add more there others dont i belive..

I too, have difficulty in recalling what was asked in Section 5. But with my friend, that the points he's mentioned are very worthwhile including. Oh ... and I seem to remember that you and your husband have an 8-year-old daughter! In which case, I'd be inclined to make it clear that ... 'you [as a caring mother] feel it would most definitely be in your child's best interests if she were given the opportunity to live as part of a complete family - i.e., with BOTH parents - in the UK, where YOU are already settled and financially secure jobwise'.

He should tick 'Other' and tell the situation as honestly as he can - don't try to make things up or leave any real holes in your story as it's just likely to cause you problems.

I am not sure of the tax situation in the Philippines with regards to a family selling relatively small amounts of goods/produce, though even if it is against the rules I'm not convinced the ECO will be bothered about it.

Indeed properly best to describe himself as a subsistence farmer the ECO should get the picture many people just scarping a living in phill

Thanks Darren, somebody and Arthur, I do feel slightly reassured, was concerned about it looking like an economic migration on his part - and yes we do have a 8 year old daughter, the reason we are part is for her education standard - will certainly make her case too, thanks arthur!

A lot of couples choose where they live for economic reasons - we certainly did.. The key thing is not focus too much on the economic side, but as Arthur said on you all being together in the best location for your family. Though as your husband will be allowed to work the moment he steps off the plane there is nothing wrong in mentioning he intends to work as the ECO will understand that he would want to support his wife and daughter.
