When in Rome, do what Romans do. I thought we Filipinos believe that love conquers all. If you're bored, do something about it. Go out and explore not only for your sake but for your son's as well. There are loads to do in the UK. Even more at Summertime (which only lasts for 2 weeks )

A lot of people would kill to be in your shoe, girl. One should count one's blessings...

    Happy New Year!

It wouldn't surprise me if some Filipinos are suffering from a bit of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) -I mean if even affects quite a few of us Brits, so if you're used to a much warmer and sunnier climate with longer daylight hours, it must even harder for them here.

I find brighter sunnier weather make me much happier, everywhere looks nicer, more alive and the countryside prettier-it kind of makes you want to go out and come alive more! I really hate dull, dark days which of course you get more in the winter -it makes you want to stay inside and as it's the winter, the countryside is not so pretty and colourful even if you do go out. I love summers and also spring, but I really don't like winters just because I'm happier in brighter, sunnier and warmer weather (not too hot though!) and of course the nearer to summer, the more daylight hours you get and the more time to do things outside.

You can buy lights for SAD which are meant to work as they give you bright light that you are missing in the winters (& even in summers her sometimes!) and you just put them on near where you are sitting for a certain amount of time a day. You can also buy alarm clocks with similar lights, that come on very dully about 20 minutes before the alarm wake-up time and gradually get brighter & brighter leading up until the alarm goes off. This is meant to be like waking up more naturally to the brightness of the day in the spring, summer & autumn and helps you feel better when you do wake as you wake-up gradually instead of being fast asleep in the darkness and waking up with a shock to the alarm-I hate that!

I think Amazon sells quite a few of the SAD lights and light alarm clocks.

Now I'm just awaiting Sir Keith's amusing response!

totally agree with you, i am not too bad in the summer but winter time i go all blah! if not coz of my dog i would not even venture outside, like today for example i do not think it can get any grayer than this! i luckily have been out with the dog earlier, so all is well off to toys r us now to buy lots and lots of toys

If you have a copy of todays Sun newspaper its worth reading the Myleene Klass column on page 11.
She`s half filipina and I like her attitude to being succesful here.
Like I say, worth a read for 30p!

Maria why not do what I do when you see a 'vacancy' somewhere?

You won't be the only one within say a 10 mile radius feeling that you do, so start a kind of 'support' group. You run it, you're the boss, and just use word of mouth and the internet. All you need do is arrange 'food parties' (and we know you'll like that ) twice a week in different people's houses, and then move onto nights out, day trips, etc. It gives you plenty to do and look forward towards. You can use this forum to start it if you wish.

Same goes for other 'lonely' Filipina's out there. You say you miss the family atmosphere, so make one here, it won't happen on it's own.

We could all be part of the countrywide 'FilipinoUK Friends Group' Whadya think?
that is good idea boss...thanks for the advice.someone want to come round my house?

being married of course is so exciting at first. but as time past, when the spark is gone, do you feel resentment of having to give up life in the philippines for our lives here? are you just as in love with your husband as the day you married him? do you have any regrets?
sometimes i do.. i look at my husband and think, dear what a miserable git he is. if i had a choice i would go back home and stay there! but unfortunately i have a son whose life is here, and there is no way i would leave him.
i cannot deny that i find life here so boring, my neighbours i do not know unlike back home where i can go house to house and eat their food. here you just cannot turn up at peoples houses unannounced.
huge culture difference as well, we are raised to help our elderly. here it nursing homes. we have a huge family that supports as back home, here it is just the hubby, and the kids.
hayzzz sorry for going on and on i guess i am just missing home so much especially now xmas is here.
i hope all you pinays have a good xmas and not missing home too much.

Being said that, in my surprise my fiancee bought one SUN NEWSPAPER when he come home, and she is proud to say her mother was filipino, but refused to speak tagalog on her co-filipino's and last night she host the countdown on BBC, another one to be proud of...

I ask fiancee who is famous/rich in the UK Myleen Klaas or Jordan (katie )

Sorry maria i should start thread and ask brit guy ,whos famous to that 2

It's been 20p around here for a long time!

Yes, I thought it was good. She seems to have her head screwed on right with sensible ideas. Saw her last night on the countdown in London - she obviously recovered well after her Christmas illness.

Well, I guess Jordan/Katie is more famous/rich, but then she's been in the media for longer/more often and for a lot of the wrong reasons really. Jordan/Katie is less talented (all Jordan/Katie did/does is glamour modelling, be seen drunk, wearing not much at parties & clubs and not much else really), is not such a nice person and is fake (plastic surgery etc & fake tan + a ton of make-up). Ask most people who they like better, who they would prefer as a friend and who is a better role model and I'm sure that most would say Mylene!

Jordan/Katie was voted for the 'I'm a celeb' bush challenges 7 times in a row and then quit! Mylene isn't in the media so much as well as she's a nice person and a good role model, but a nice person who is a good role model and isn't seen drunk &scantilly clad at clubs is not so interesting to newspapers! Hopefully, after being voted all those times in 'I'm a celeb' might have told the newspapers that people are fed up hearing about Jordan/Katie!
