I have a consulting business over there. I do believe that it's better if you can get a posting over there from an International company or have a job lined up already from a local company as it is very hard / frustrtaing to set up a local business as a foreigner

My Mahal's Uncle is a bit of a businessman in Bongabon. He manages a load of farm land. He says he will help us set up with some land too.
I am an engineer by trade (aerospace fitter/mechanic/welder/sheet metal) now a Production Planner, so I am adaptable, but like you say, a tranfer is a good option if you are in that lucky position to work for a company that is already in the region. Oh well!!

I work in procurement consulting/training and used to be based out of HK. When we are ready to return to Asia I am hoping that my old outfit will assist me in setting up an office in the Phils although an ex clent of mine is already looking to establish a niche procurement consultancy in the hospitality sector and I am assisting him from here with bid prep and such tasks. If he is successful we may be able to work together. How do you find getting paid by filipino businesses? and what kind of day rates can you command?

HI - I also work in consulting and training but I'm on the telecoms side of things. Good look with setting up your RP based business - Hope it goes well for you.

I don't have a problem getting paid by Filipino businesses because I don't normally work for Filipino businesses - Most of my clients are overseas, mainly in Africa. When I have worked for Filipino businesses, generally they want the work for free - always wanting huge discounts with the promise of bigger orders in the future etc etc - hence I focussed my marketing elsewhere (less hassle). The day rates now are a lot less than they were 10 years ago. Nowadays its about 60% of what I was charged out at 10 years ago - so much for inflation!!
