I sent a gift to my friend via Western Union, and it cost about 4.50gbp for immediate transfer, would have been about 12.00gbp for 3 day thing.
Apparently, "they don't always tell you about this" so worth asking..
Strange though.

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.
I dont know if its a percentage or a set charge pete,I gave them just over a thousand quid and they charged me either £50 or £52?I will rake the receipt out tommorrow and get the exact figure.

Hey Tawi, that's OK m8, no stress, I sent just 20.00gbp so maybe not a set percentage, maybe what I paid was a minimum charge?, my friend gave her male name, which he saw, and I think the manager where I went is ahem, "good with colours" himself...
I did go to what we call an "implant" branch so maybe staff concession, want to say where I work but bit dodgy on a forum. I will just say do you remember a sketch from "not the nine o'clock news" some time back?
The blonde lady saying "certainly sir, and would you like to rub my ts as well?"......
Pamela Stephenson was the lady in that sketch, and I know who you worked for,I used to use their services a long time ago when they had an office in Rawalpindi(in the current climate I shouldnt think it would be there nowadays, extremists in the area mightnt like the name).

Is there no cheaper way to send money? It does seem a lot to transfer a small amount. Wouldn't be so bad if it was that for trasferring £50 or more.
I often transfer GBP to the Philippines for my business, I use HSBC and do a direct transfer between a UK-based and an RP-based HSBC account. They charge me a flat rate of £15 irrespective of the amount.
PNB EUROPE, is the way to go, if you are in it for the long haul. Their online remittance facility.
£5.00 to send to an account
£8.00 for the money to be picked up
That is any amount up to £10,000.
When I was getting married, I sent about 500 quid by moneygram, cost me £36.00 Infact I did it twice.
Western Union fees are pretty much the same as moneygram I think?
I use Allied Bank, set up with on-line banking, £5 a transaction with no limit what you send, only slight draw back is takes 6-8working days but no problem if you set up a standing order or plan in advance....
How about paypal and/or moneybookers do they operate in the Philippines.
