    When I joined the site [October 2008] 'Newbies' needed to accrue 15 posts before being admitted to full membership ... and hence allowed access to others' profiles ... and, to the best of my knowledge, this is STILL the case ... see Forum Rules - Information & Announcements, on the main page. Hope this clarifies the situation.
