Whoever created the viruses which copy themselves in cells made sure they would be successful , by giving them genes so they could evolve by natural selection. Antigenic shift results in influenza pandemics like "Spanish flu" which caused up to 100 million deaths in 1918/1919. Millions of people have died from AIDS due to a virus which mutated into HIV. Because viruses evolve, even when where vaccines are available, lasting immunity is not possible, and new antiviral drugs keep having to be developed. Facts, not opinion
