    I Miss My Man

My BF (pinoy) works for a cruise line and has just returned to the ship. He has been at home in Manila for the last 4 months. So i have been to visit him and we emailed and txted everyday.

Now hes back on the ship, he will not have much time to email, as he will be working everyday and sleeping when he gets some time off ( which isnt often).

Hes been on the ship a week now and I still find myself constantly checking my email. I have known him for nearly 3 years now, so I should be used to it. But it is still horrible when he goes back and I only hear from him a couple of times a month.

I guess I will just have to keep myself busy until August, when I will go out to Alaska to visit him on the ship. I can't wait!!

That's tough. I can't imagine how hard it would be to maintain an LDR with such infrequent contact. Roll on august eh

Its really tough and I do sometimes wonder why I put myself through it. But I have been to the ship many times and have seen how hard he works and how little time he has to himself. I feel that its unfair of me to demand more contact. We just have to make the most of the time that he is home fom the ship.

... with my friend's sentiments - roll on *August - and *it'll come round quicker than you might imagine at the moment. Hard though it IS, DO try and keep your pecker up ... by looking forward each day.

... I laid myself wide-open with THAT one - and, not altogether surprisingly - had kinda half-expected to be given a hard time of it!

Can be a tough life on those cruise ships, the internet cards are quite expensive too (normally about 20USD for a few hours). I would recommend you give him one of those roaming phone sims, which is a UK (IOM) cellphone number and allows you to call him in many countries without him incurring incoming charges (works in the USA, Europe, some of the Caribbean). I gave Marvie one when I left the cruise lines for yachts and she stayed on, and it was a godsend.
    God Bless

I hadn't thought of that, maybe I will do that next time he goes away. He did say that the internet cards are pricey and that he prefers to take his laptop ashore if he gets time.

You may or may not know, apologies if you do, but if he sees the purser or officer responsible for crew then he should be able to get a list of port agent addresses for the upcoming ports, you can then send mail to the agent addressed to 'CREW NAME, SHIP NAME, C/O AGENT....' and you can send it out straight away, honestly its well worth it. Also, if he's doing a lot of time in Alaska then it could be worth him getting a US PAYG sim card, he can text you and you can call him. Once you get a routine with his time off and acceptable hours for you, you'll be sorted :-)

Thanks for that. The main problem is his lack of routine. He doesnt usually know his day off until the day before and his breaks are all over the place. Then theres the fact that Im in work full time and the 9 hour time diff when hes in Alaska. I guess I just have to keep busy and it will soon be August.

I would go to the ship more if I could afford it, but at £2500 a time, its just not possible. x
