    Credit card surcharges are forbidden!

Good news, when using in the Philippines a credit card in a store, restaurant, ... you can't be charged with a surcharge for using your card (that's good! ):

    Read this newspaper article: http://www.manilatimes.net/national/...61225bus1.html

Here is the official news: http://www.business.gov.ph/Laws.php?contentID=18

and the official Law text (Laws - Credit Card [Department Administrative Order n° 10, series of 2006]):
Reiterating the Rules on Price Tags/Labels and Providing Prohibition Against the Imposition of a Surcharge, Extra Charge or Additional Charge in the Use of Credit/Automated Teller Machine (ATM)/Debit Cards for Payment of Purchases of Consumer Products or Services

I will print and keep it in my pocket during my next trip there, just in case to be able to show they are violating the Laws if they ever try to add a surcharge
    Best regards.

But being a cynical Brit im sure the Shops, resturant will just add it in increases to everyones bill. That or you will have a minimum purchase amount by card.

You shouldn't be paying for things like that with a CC in another country anyway.

    Oh B######S!
I've just come back from Cebu where they charged me 6% for buying scuba gear with a credit card. That amounted to P1260 so I'm trying to get it back now!

In the UK quite often smaller shops will give discounts for cash purchases or add a surcharge if a card. I always ask if they give discount for cash, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

Tescos used to have on there recepit something about 2.75ish percent of charge for customers paying with card, but 0 percent for cash purchasers. But you pay the same amount at the till. I think they must have been having a dig at the card companies.

Ikea now charge 70 p for card transactions.

So u cant charge more but im sure they will be able to offer a discount for cash or some work round. That or like a lot of shops in phill not accept them.

Credit-card firms must not impose surcharges–BSP
Retailers in uproar over DTI order

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said banks should not impose credit-card surcharges in accordance with the Price Tag Law.

So looks like shops will simply refuse to accept credit cards or bump up the avegrage price for everyone slighty.

Might pee of the OFWS/tourists on their vists to phill.
