My wife travelled to Spain with her passport still in her maiden name.

She later changed her surname name so that she retained her maiden name plus my surname as her surnames.

In UK there is NO REASON to change your name on marriage. So if you wish to continue using your maiden name no problem.

For that matter, in the UK, your husband could choose to change his surname to yours or each of you could choose a completely new surname, even different from each other !

In the UK, wives adopting their husband's surname is a cultural thing not a legal requirement.

... well, to give you some idea: MY wife [also Filipina] obtained her first (and only) *passport to date, in late September 2008 - just over a couple of months prior to OUR wedding in the Phils. Consequently, it was issued in HER maiden name - as was her spousal visa - and, since it's valid until 2013, WE didn't see the point of squandering much-needed cash on having *it changed so far in advance.

    And so it remains!

What I'm saying here, IS: there's no legal obligation on your part to take your husband's surname - EVER - unless you really WANT to ... in which case, it's easily enough arranged once you're in the United Kingdom.

bcoz im married 2005 but i obtained by passport 2008. I haven't used my husband's surname 'cos there are some discrepancies in my name on the marriage contract and i badly need a passport that time so i just used my maiden name when i applied but now our marriage contract is revised, do i still need to update mg status on my passport or not? would there be any problem in the embassy?

    See my post above.

    Adding to that:

I don't think we showed our marriage cert when my wife changed the name in her passport at the Phil consulate in Madrid.

If we did, it shows her maiden name and my name, but as I said she changed the passport name (it was a manuscript change with a stamp) so that it included her maiden name and my surname (example From ' Alice Smith' to 'Alice Smith Brown'). No problems were raised and she has travelled on that passport since, including to Phil, Malaysia and Thailand, without any problems.
