applying for parent to settle in uk? help pls!

hi to all again, just been looking on ukba(oh yes that wonderful site full of nice little suprises!) anyway my father in law recently passed away and we would like mama to come and settle here in the uk with us. she also has a grandchild who is a dependent also.
my question is in regard to the fees( we can fulfill the requirements no prob)
is it really 1680 per appllication? is this is one time payment or is the situation the same as the flr and ilr?
so are we looking at 1680 for mama amd then another 1680 for her dependent?
seems like one helluva price hike if i have read it correctly!
anyone got any experience of this?

yep i think your right about the price..

how old is your mother in law ?
she must have family members in the phils she could live with ?
does she have money of her own ? works/savings/pension ? does she rely on you only ?

chances of getting a settlement visa for a relative are slim for most people..

no savings etc, she is totally reliant upon us now and always will be.
from what i can see on ukba the process seems the same as for my wife to settle here.
why do you feel the odds are slim for most people? is there a history of refusals for such applications?

hi johnny im in the same situation as your wife. my dad passed away last year. we have just submitted my mom's application on the 15th of may we hope to hear a positive feedback from the embassy. ill keep you posted. have you applied for your mother's in laws visa already. the visa fee will cover her residency visa she will need not apply for a LLR or ILR as the one she gets is equivalent of an ILR.

hi, yes we have to show all the western union receipts we have sent and also te house rental agreement in my name etc. i have called the uk embassy in manila (to speak to a human being which you cant do easily by calling ukba etc here!!!) the lady told me many people just dont apply coz they are not aware they can! anyway she said the process just the same as for fiancees n wife and not to worry about scare stories of high rejection rate coz thats just not true! we shall see!
my mother in law isnt 65 until 2012 but im getting all my stuff ready and doing all the planning now so we have an excellent folder ready for the visa process. the intial visa price is high but yes you are right it covers all flr n ilr cost as well so actually it works out about the same.

you know the conditions you need to satisfy

many have problems with these 3

(v) has no other close relatives in his own country to whom he could turn for financial support

(iii) is financially wholly or mainly dependent on the relative present and settled in the United Kingdom; and


(e) parent or grandparent under the age of 65 if living alone outside the United Kingdom in the most exceptional compassionate circumstances and mainly dependent financially on relatives settled in the United Kingdom; or


now anyone applying for a spouse or fiancee visa doesnt have to statisfy these strict conditions

i know a number are rejected, not sure what percentage thou..
