why would they need a return ticket

i wouldn't buy a ticket until you have their visa's anyway.. not unless you can get them on a special offer and are prepared to take the risk that you will have the visa in time for your flight

for your 3yr old stepdaughter dont forget you need to show your wife has 'sole responsibility' for her daughter..
