    Question Looking to learn Tagalog

    Hello Everyone

I joined this forum so I that I could learn Tagalog and Illonggo (I think the correct name is Visian) The local dialect of Negros Occidental.

I was wondering if there is anyone who knows either language that lives in Northampton. That can spare one evening a week to tutor me I would be most grateful

    John

John ... what an appropriate surname you have for a "new man" here! I'm sure some of our Visayan members will be able to offer helpful guidance on becoming acquainted with the Bisayan language.

    Hi
I learnt Tagalog many years ago with Cora Castle, she held classes weekly at London Bridge and she was still around up to a couple of years ago and was a columnist in the Filipino paper. She produced a Tagalog language book, (massive thing) and I`m sure she would have moved with the times and gone digital. She originated from Mindoro so it could be that she is O fay with other dialects.

Have a look on Youtube, I remember Jackson_Alan a member here was learning Tagalog from it.

Maybe he will read this & enlighten you?

I've got the Rosetta Stone, it is very very good, and really hones your pronunciation. I'll give a full and proper review once i've completed Level 3. But thus far, i'm very happy with it, it's definately opened up my vocubulary and helping with understanding the grammar.

The best way to learn i have found is to immerse yourself completely in the language. I also picked up some (good) books but i learn't a huge amount simply by spending time with my mahal. Often she drifted into Tagalog when talking to me which was funny. Common sayings were easy to learn and repeat and are already second nature
