Immigration: The new Tory/Lib Dem governments policy

Noted on this BBC news page the section under immigration, which reads:

"Cap on immigration from outside the European Union"...

It will be interesting to me (and many on this forum) how this is carried out. Could be bad news

I agree, doesn't look good. Spouse visas should be ok, you'd think, but fiance and visitor visa, may become a lot harder to obtain.

i shouldnt worry, its just PR just to get votes.

we should worry more about people in the EU coming here than the rest of the world, they cant stop them coming from the EU, so they say the rest of the world.

if they was serious then it should be all immigrants!, but they wont do that because they havent got a back bone!
i have learnt to do what my wife says!

What has it got to do with backbone ? You said it yourself due to Euro Legislation/Conventions "they can't stop them coming from the EU"

I hope they do more than spineless Labour did in the last 13 years - turn around the scum jumping off the back of lorries and ship them back to Euroland

I think everyone agrees that the illegal immigrants have to be dealt with, but surely not to those who legally join this country. Also, if we got rid of all of the Poles and the other recent arrivals, I doubt the economy would benefit..

apologies first- i posted a similar thread in the UK immigration section cos i didnt see this one up

as someone who is currently involved in getting my wife over the idea of capping numbers is a joke- how can an ECO be objective with each application if they have "quotas" to reach

I don't really have an issue with EU immigration I guess thats here to stay and Bottler broke his promise on a Lisbon Treaty referendum.

I'm sick of the way we've had 13 years of treating illegals posing as asylum seekers with kid gloves. They should be rounded up and slung out.

Incidentally is it just me who thinks the so called asylum seekers are mainly young males who've left their wives/offspring in the country they have supposedly fled in fear of their lives from ?

fiance and spouse visa's will always be very hard for them to place restrictions on and placing a limitation on the amount to be issued would become a Human Rights nightmare. They may just want more proof that it's not a forced marriage or a sham, but thats about the limit of things.
Plenty of other areas in immigration that are a much bigger problem. But then if the Lib Dems had their way, we'd be Schengan country by now with almost no borders!

Well we don't know what their plans are? but they could put the prices of visas up dramatically, making it prohibitive for some to bring spouses, fiances etc. over?

No you don't know what the new policies will be, they could do a lot of things eg put 90% VAT on sliced bread, putting toast out of reach of many. I can't see the point of your post

    have you been drinking

visa for spouses etc arnt the problem, its the perception that immigration is out of control and together with the EU lot coming over, that we all think we are over run by immigrants, when we have had immigration for years.

we dont seem to complain about our wifes or football players coming here
i have learnt to do what my wife says!

It isn't a perception, we are overrun by the scum of the earth many posing as asylum seekers. Somali gangsters, Kosovan pimps, Albanian gangsters all encouraged to remain here by New Labour in a cynical ploy to change the structure of society and create more tame Labour voters. These grubs contribute nothing to our country and should be deported.

If you ever find yourself in Slough.............here's the results of a Police operation in a Kosovan run red light district

    http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/ne....htm?id=130754

Most of those convicted don't have British names

The problem is greater outside the Home Counties - Blair for example deposited plane loads from Kosovo in places like Glasgow, back in 2005 Somalis murdered PC Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford

... to try and *impose such restrictions would amount to gross 'Human Rights' violation on a massive scale. So I really think those who imagine *this will happen, are worrying themselves needlessly!

Maybe the new Gov will be influenced by Nick Glegg's Spanish wife, Ms Gonzalez Durantez, to adopt a more Spanish, much more friendly, approach to the rights of spouses from outside the EU.

I agree with you Sim, I can't remember if he ever actually posted anything on here that was even remotely to do with Fil/Brit relationships, visas, LDR's, etc, etc, but if he did then I missed it.

Welcome back ! I was wondering when you would surface, still getting over the shock of seeing the back of Bottler Brown are we ? All your bull about him having a scheme to cling onto power predictably came to nothing. I loved those posts you sounded as desperate as the condemned man himself

Keith you're not quite as high up in the Hand Wringers League as that pair - I see you as more of a fellow traveller

If Labour said the world was flat I reckon you would question it rather than blindly agree.

You do make me laugh Dedworth...Tell me where you live & I'll come & sit on the corner of your street. (don't worry I wont talk to you) because I'd love to witness all these Kosovan pimps, Albanian gangsters jumping put of the backs of lorries there...How many lorries am I likely to see? I'll bring a flask.

Being serious though, yes terrible things do happen & it's easy to make light. Girls trafficked, drugs etc. etc. but this is the dark side of life, which unfortunately will always go on & always has done.

    Just lighten up a bit.

Still think my post was valid though, because with the new govt. good or bad? I'm worried about bringing my wife here.
