    corrupt babylon

i been here for 18mnths but one thing that proper gets to me is dat everyone is
"ON THE TAKE" .... whether its NSO DOCUMENTS (make sure u dont make ANY MISTAKES on NSO DOCMENTS bcoz u hav to take it to department of corrections and wait for interview then wait anothr 3 mnths for processing) or marriage (civil) anythingg that involves goin to dat f***ing CITY HALL IN MANILA, but of course if u hav d money u can MAGICALLY get thingz fast-tracked.... HONESTLY U CAN PRETTY MUCH APROACH ANY1 IN THAT SHITHOLE OF WAT THEY CALL A "CITY HALL" and they can do things for a price. if u got d money and its ok with ur conscience to fall to these vulchers then ok.....and naturally most of us uk mans wanna sort things bcaz of timme limits on visas, jobs back home, so we can sort our filipinos girls visa and babys passport quickly..... the whole "philippines process" just ****** me right off!
its like when we went to apply for our marriage license d first time we went we paid and were told we had to attend marriage seminar.....ok cool, then when we went to d seminar it was all in talgalog! i had 2 sit dere for 3hrs litening to dis old man teachin us sex education in tagalog. dont get me wrong i overstand d purpose of these teachins for uneducated newly weds.... but the family planning clinic told me i had2 attend , they didnt tell me it wasnt in english....so wat was d point in me attending.
anyway the things we do for our loved ones huh?
i think iv been here for to long hahah

I hired what call in the Philippines a "runner" to do all the paperwork. I did not pay any of vultures but giving somebody an income... so while he is running there following up authentications, NSO, city hall... whatever, you can be elsewhere enjoying your SMB. The only thing i didnt get away with is the seminar for women getting married to a foreigner. That was ok. and my hubby didnt have to come with because we didnt get married in Philippines.

A 500PHP a day for anyone who can do that for you is a good price for your peace of mind and lets you have SMB on a warm afternoon. ah... cold SMB... missed that so much

I agree with Bab 'organize' is the key point here....and if it does not work,go straight to the Mayors Office (you'll be delighted on how they treat u nice and give u notes on every department you'll be needing to have your paper works done) with no special cost just a smile and a thank you will do.

Yes hunnie, don't want to give out our money to blood sucking leeches
cadburys are to keep the registrar girls sweet only after all the paperworks are done

    GOYA and do it yourself,

if you pay other people to do things for you or your giving out brown envelopes, you could end up with less money, apps refused or even fake papers etc

i've never paid anyone off, nor will i ever

A bit strong, may be but, having experinced it first hand, I agree with the thread starter

    Just a thought...

could it be that the corruption (among others) is indirectly keeping the labor cost low? the price of the beer low? ... and what makes some people consider leaving everything behind and marry somebody halfway around the world?

    violent reactions are welcomed

The costs of living in the Philippines are to the westerner. My wife and I have made plans to go back and live there but, without going into detail our bridges will not be burnt here. If all was to go pear shaped, we come back.
We love the family values, respect for elders and of course like you rightly mentioned, the cost of living. This is the draw for many of us. So the corruption bit, it's a cross worth bearing

".but remember u can NEVER GENERALISE.... a woman is a woman a man is a man "

too true man, I have known lots of Uk and Filipino marriages around this part of London and Essex and after living here for some years they seem to take on board the western style with just the same proportion of divorces. That old saying Poverty comes in the door Loves flies out the window still holds fast. Either that or they the older husbands silly

I spent most of my working life in foreign countries getting things done by greasing the wheels.
Go with the flow and smile through it, no sense in getting uptight - it only gives you a headache.
You can make friends with people and find out more about their way of life.
