Rio Ferdinand ready to lead England at World Cup finals

Rio Ferdinand says he is mentally and physically ready to captain England at the World Cup after enduring an injury-hit season with Manchester United.

Don't count your chickens Rio - if Hargreaves contract had been cancelled you'd be the proud holder of the Old Trafford Sicknote title

Fair enough Les my mistake you're right.

When does Capello have to pare the numbers down to those actually in the travelling squad ? Be interesting to see if he risks taking King

Hmm ... it never ceases to amaze me why so many football clubs in the UK employ non-British managers and team members. Is there REALLY such a shortage of home-grown talent?

I trust Capello, no better man for the job, if he thinks Rio makes the best captain thats good enough for me

Arthur, with the players its often cheaper to get one abroad, because as soon as a homegrown player shows some talent their clubs will put a ridiculous pricetag on their head. With the managers I guess its because they bring international experience with them.
