    Need advice for a friend

Hi I have a friend who is very confused what to do regarding her daugther whose in the Phils right now. The daugther was born here in UK when my friend still in WP visa and now she is British citizen and her husband on ILR.

They want to get the daughter to live here in the UK for good. She thinks that her daugther is eligible to register as British since she was born here. She rang the UK embassy in Manila they said she can apply here in the UK and then she went to CAB to clarify it but they said she needs to apply in Manila for her citizenship.

She is very confused where to apply but the last time i speak to her she said that she will try to apply here in the UK. Is that possible even the child is in Phils?

    Thank you all!

I'd be very surprised if she needed to travel to Manila to do this.
Don't listen to anything the CAB have to say. They rarely take any care and attention over their advice (in my experience at least), and generally its easier to find out for yourself.
Check out (or point them to) - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pa...temp-resident/

She may also want to look at - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pa...anentresident/ as I'm not sure which advice would apply given the parents different immigration status.

i think she don't need to go to manila to apply her daughter's visa or passport, she need to authorise her family in the philippines to process her daughter application and what she need is to send all documents to them.
    all things are possible!

i would have thought seeing at least one parent has ILR or more, then the child can be registered at the embassy and a british passport can be applied for.

    thanks for the reply

can she apply or register her daugther here in UK or it should be in the Phils? If she apply in Phils (asking her family to do it) what sorts of documents she needs to send to her family aside from her British passport? Do you think how long it takes I think they're planning to go home Oct this year.

    Thanks

I seem to remember someone once saying to me, "just because a person is born on the [Scottish] Isle of Skye, it doesn't mean he/she is a 'Skye Terrier'!" ... or other daft words to that effect.

But in this instance, the daughter's birth took place in the UK. Her mother is ALREADY a naturalised British Citizen ... and the father has Indefinite Leave To Remain; surely, all things considered, the girl is eligible to be registered in THIS country. Of course, I'M no expert.

yes i think there is a saying if a dog is born in a stable it doesnt make it a horse

once one of the parents got ILR, they could register the child as british.

i would have thought they can do it all from the phils, contact the embassy for which form.
