    First time in any forum

    Hi Folks,
new to any type of forum. I work as a ship welfare visitor on a daily basis. Nearly everyday I meet Filipino seafarers who visit our shores.
Just begun learning Filipino. Visited Philippines for the first time last year, will not be the last visit.

Well ... you've certainly picked the RIGHT forum! ! I see you're Scottish-based. Would it happen to be in Fraserburgh?

Interesting! Which of the Filipino languages are you studying, Richa? ... Visayan, Tagalog or ... one of the others? [I believe there is quite an assortment]. And you seem to have enjoyed your visit from what you've mentioned.

I would like to say a big thankyou for all the kind thought and replies.
I cover the ports between Leith and Dundee on the east and on the west coast Glasgow down to Ayr.
I am attempting to learn Tagalog, attempting being the correct word.

Hi Richa. Welcome to the forum. Would highly recommend the Rosetta Stone for learning Tagalog.
Filipino seafarers in the UK are getting a rough time, after the recent border control incident deporting the seafarers over pornography. A lot of people are up in arms about that, where are the human rights? Glad people like you are there to help.
I'm ex-merchant now superyachting seafarer myself.

yes, I have also been involved with the Filipino fishermen working on our Scottish fishing boats. It is good to report that they now have a working visa which will last 18months and they are now living onshore and not on the small fishing boats. We do not know what will happen at the end of the 18 month visa. Many of these lads were merchant seafarers but could not find work so turned to fishing.
I have purchased the Rosetta Stone course, thanks.
    And thanks for the welcome.

I certainly did enjoy my visit and to continue experiencing Filipino hospitality. I stayed in the homes of some of the seafarers that I had made friends with. Better to give my friends the cost the accomodation than the hotels, they could do much more with the money. I am learning Tagalog.

    Welcome Richa!
There are filipino fishermen here as well. They are sometimes based at Fraserburgh, Aberdeen and some moved to Northern Ireland.

Hi Steve! If Emma's shoe size is 6 1/2(6.5) her euro size is 37 and UK size 4.

Please check the international shoe size and look for Ladies shoe sizes:

sorry penny, i'm not a big seafood eater. only eat it now and then. i stay and work here in edinburgh, but i own a flat up in fraserburgh so i am up there during some of my days off. but i am sure that when minie does finally come over, we will end up with far more fish in the freezer/fridge.

Oh sorry! You are like my husband who doesn't like seafood? But he like fish fingers. But since I arrived, our freezers is full of seafood and he's complaining as no more space for his meat.

Welcome Richa, it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job working with our Filipino friends, keep it up. By the sounds of it, you fit in with the rest of us Brits on here, once you experience the Philippines you are totally hooked on it. Which part/s did you visit?
