i'm Alan live and work in Hertfordshire
just found the forum again after my pc died last year.
my lovely Jennie and myself are just about to apply for her Fiancee visa i am getting all the requirments that i need to supply for the application and to write the letter of surport (with my typing skills and never knowing what to write this will take ages)
so any help will be greatly welcome

I'm unable to help never having applied for a Fiancee visa but there's plenty on here who will give you untold assistance. When you get further down the line I know a bit about Brit Citizenship & Passport applications. Good luck

Yes, , you'll need to compose a letter of sponsorship on your fiancee's behalf. And, in a bid to assist you, I've just been looking back over the one that accompanied my wife's application for a spousal visa 18 months ago ... with a view to drafting out something along similar lines for your guidance. But, of course, our circumstances are different in many respects - even although both visa types are classified under the Settlement category and the fees are the same.

What the two DO have in common, though, is a declaration to the effect that the sponsor will be able to provide his/her partner with suitable accommodation and have sufficient means - i.e., a steady job with a regular income (backed up by [usually] six months' worth of Bank Statements) and a reasonable amount of Savings (£2-£3k recommended minimum ... with NO record of having recently been overdrawn!) - to fully support him/her financially WITHOUT becoming reliant upon Public Funds, e.g., State Benefits.

Earlier, I referred to the differences in our respective circumstances. Not least among them, is the fact that I am/was a retired person ... and, as such had to hope and that my [fairly modest] occupational pension would prove adequate - on the basis that I would become eligible to receive the State Pension within the ensuing 9 month period.

Luckily, my "prayers" were answered ... and I wish you and Jennie the same success!

yes, if you budget in your mind for 3-6 months, you won't be disappointed if it takes that long, but it'll be a very pleasant surprise if it's quicker

Yes ... that's what Myrna was led to believe - or, more accurately, THREE months as being the norm - when she lodged HER application on January 20, 2009. In the event, however, the visa was approved just 4/5 weeks later ... so WE were pleasantly surprised!

I think, though, Al ... a lot probably depends on the time of year an application is submitted, the Embassy's workload at any given point ... and, not least, the Entry Clearance Officer(s) assigned to a particular case. In the course of my membership of this forum, for example, I've even known of some [isolated] instances where visas have been granted within a few days ... but, generally speaking, those tend to be the exception rather than the rule.

I have taken a break from writing it at the moment as my typing finger was starting to ache.
