Sir, it's not my argument and I don't want to get involved but Apo has been here nearly as long as you and while his recent history as shown in the "View Forum Posts" may well have been about religion that history only goes back a few months, I do not remember this being a great bias in his past conversations? (I've only been here about a year though).
As the boss says this thread is interesting because it's a debate, no one is bashing anyone else.
Personally, for Fitzy, a very decent guy on this board, I feel very very sad.
I have had friends die, sometimes in awful circumstances but never in a deliberate violent death caused by another human being, that is just horrific and I fully understand his anger while I do not agree with the broad brush of his interpretation and direction of his anger.
A lot of the guys have expressed a balanced view while not condoning the crime, I fall into that camp, I cannot attack an entire faith when the majority of people who follow said faith are decent law abiding people.
What happened is awful, a terrible crime but I abhor intolerance in all it's forms in our country. A fundamental defining feature of our culture has always been our fairness to others. I know that in practice and in the real world this has always been more of an aspiration than reality across our culture however that aspiration is a noble goal and one we should not throw away lightly.
There is also a strong need and value in life to try to rise above our immediate emotional response to our immediate experience but it is so so hard!
I am so sorry to hear what happened to your friend Fitzy :(
Jim
