    Bob Dylan in town

Just saw an art gallery advertising that Bob Dylan is there today signing book copies in Harrogate.

Was suprised and dissapointed to see no queues to meet the guy

Told a few people and complete indifference

I'm stunned got most of his albums and I reguarded him as a bit of a legend, same as Jagger,Bowie etc

I bet if it had been "jedward there would have been a bigger queue

They are all pensioners now and cant cut the mustard appearing live.Saw the Stones at Wembley just before it was pulled down and they were tame. saw Elton John around the same time and he was great.Watched Tom Jones at Knebworth, terrific, sweaty though.I used to hate him when I was a teenager. I love all types of music now but early R&B still rings my bell.
See if you can find The Pretty things..Rosalyn, they were better then the stones, or an american ZZ Hill.. steal away, he wrote his own stuff but his lyrics were terrible.

he used to hang around with us down wardour street , we are the same age, I`ve got that LP but it never sees the light of day now, also the stones first LP with King Bee, can I get a witness, under the boardwalk etc. i like basically anyone that can perform live, and there is still some young talent coming through.

Les - you and I talk the same language musically. Dylan, Bowie - I would add my own - Led Zepp - Hendrix - ELO - Small Faces - Yardbirds - Cream.

In my opinion - REAL music! There has been no real music for many years - nor any real talent.

There`s loads of real music around, just all you hear nowadays are girl bands that cant sing and just sell by showing as much flesh as possible. I love all the old stuff and my appreciation ranges from BB King to Chas and Dave. scissor sisters are a real tight group, blur, coldplay, I even enjoyed the worzels at the imp in exeter some months back.

Agree 100%. The charts are full of old music resamples with some idiot rapping over the top. The worse example is Poof Daddy ripping off The Police's "Every Breath You Take".

Its all about the money innit. Poof Daddy to Sting "Yo Stingy you want a few million pounds more to add to your bank account?" Sting to Poof Daddy "Kerching!"

Thats what it boils down to - money

The point is dylan helped shape music for years to come,He wasen't afraid to be controversial and had some catchy tunes too, along with Led Zepp - Hendrix - ELO - Small Faces - Yardbirds - Cream-Bowie-jagger-Lennon.

Recent decent bands I would add would be Oasis, sterophonics, manics, and even one of my fav-Squeeze still produced great stuff after the "cool for cats" era

I also like his Travelling willbury's songs,he added a nice edge to the band.

I was sad to see no big queue for Dylan and thought I bet if the mighty "Jedward" had been here there would have been a bigger queue

As for chas n dave, the worzels and scissor sisters in the words of John McEnroe "you can't be serious"

How many of these current chart bands will still be around in years to come? my guess is none

Here is a group of real singers apologies to Robbie williams

Sorry can't embed here is link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8s9dmuAKvU

just highlighting the point that all music can be appreciated if its performed well and chas and dave are performers, but i dont stay trapped by the music of the 60s I listened to in my younger days.

To me a musician, is a person that writes his/her own lyrics and music, and sadly, there aren't many of those left....

The proliferation of talent contests, only exacerbates the situation,
Although I cannot sing to save my life, I know a nice song when I hear one, and can appreciate it like anybody else for what it is.

I am not trapped in the past, either.

Les, I just watched your YouTube video of the Wilburys. Almost brought tears to my eyes watching Roy and George.

    Then I watched this:-
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwqhd...eature=channel

......and when it got to Roy's verse, it DID bring tears to my eyes!!

    Our loss was Heaven's gain.

What gets me is that a lot of the new "bands" these days are not playing any instruments.
    It is just karioke.

I like the Manchester band "Elbow", they are newly discovered but were playing for many years.

Imagine being a talented musician, watching the success of dross singers and dancers over the years.

Bob Dylan is magnificent, a real poet and master storyteller

I can't really stand any group that doesn't use real instruments, most people can be taught to sing.
