    Must Be Getting Old

... just watched the newly-installed Leader of the Opposition "powdering his nose" for the cameras on ITV's News at Ten. Now I realise that at 40 he's actually on the verge of what is generally accepted as early middle-age ... but he looks more like a schoolboy. Likewise, Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg!

Time was when the first telltale signs of feeling that bit older manifested themselves upon noticing that police officers and doctors almost surreptitiously began to appear younger than they ever had before.

But nowadays, whenever I see practically anyone who's still working at all ... I know it's a fair bet he or she is younger than I am.

    Scary thought!

    Hello Arthur,
I know what you mean about them looking younger!

We have the self satisfaction that we have completed our working lives
And can now wake and get up in the mo0rnings when we “want to” not when we need to!
    Mick.

This is a so-called "alpha-blocker" (proper name tamsulosin) for improving urine flow in "benign" enlargement of the prostate. It's not a condition to worry the Mililband brothers or Steve...yet... But it's so common as to be almost a "normal" feature of getting old ( 10-30% for men in their early 70's). As for how effective these drugs are, they are useful but as they may reduce blood pressure, ask your GP Mick

    Thanks Doc Alan,
As I also have slighty high blood pressure they might even help woth that as well
My Dr did say somthing about them when she put me on them, but we talked about a few things that time and it went from my memory!

Gents ... I'm currently taking *this drug - in conjunction with aspirin and simvistatin for keeping my cholesterol levels at bay following surgery for a blocked carotid artery in February 2008. Last Tuesday, I'd a routine healthcheck ... and was informed by the Practice Nurse that my blood pressure was excellent! Therefore, I am assuming that 'Tamsulosin' is safe enough for me at least.

Arthur, to be honest only your GP can answer that. Like most drugs, it has other side effects. But your GP will be aware of that.
I could add that NONE of the three Steves ("Stooges") need yet worry about prostate troubles .

    boss win win,

if we have court and relationship, travel advice and tips etc.. in the forum, why not create another section about health?
it may be entitled as ASK YOUR DOCTOR... or THE DOCTOR IS IN

what do u think doc alan?

    Very flattering Rani
But it's an awesome responsibility for one person ! I really try not to give opinions, but evidence-based facts. However, I can't know it all. We're all learning here on this excellent forum.
Luckily I'm way beyond needing "reps" or trusted status ! I'm happy to continue contributing (and learning) without a separate area of the forum for health.

well, i still think that we need a separate one for health related topics..
it does not necessarily mean a "question and answer" section only but whatever article related to health that the members should be aware of.. like the "boss" postings in facebook eg. signs of heart disease, weight loss techniques etc.
