most people move out of the rural areas to the cities for work and it must be one big shock for many , but as you are aware by now, the filipino people adapt to many many things very quicky, i think we could never adapt as quickly as they do but who knows, if we was in a other situation

Good morning to you, of course I was forgetting that you only need about 2 hours sleep!
forester...the Philippines is 7 hours in front of us, will be 8 at the end of the month, when we change the clocks.
Thanks sim, I had looked at my trusty diary and had thought it was 8 hours ahead, then got my arithmetic totally wrong thinking it was later than 6.00pm.
i must be due a job in the Treasury or a bank on this performance!
i hated that extra hour when emma was there made all the differance that hour some times did not speak for days or i had to get up extra early to talk to her , but thats all in the past know
I know that there are lots of other threads about long distance relationships, but it must be a real bind with such a time difference.
I presume the only good thing is the web and everything that goes with it otherwise it would be the landline and snail mail.
with me and emma and everyone else you look for the best ways , skype is one of the best for me and emma i think if we did not have well who knows where we would be, mobile phones too but have to watch the cost too, but again if there is a way you would find it
I'm contemplating stowing away on a ship, knowing my luck it will be going to the Artic instead of the Philippines.

Yip ,my mother died 3 years ago this month and my father was of the generation when a man did nothing ( I bet this causes some comment!)
He has always drunk heavily despite being a physician and when my mother died he got worse, about a litre of spirits a day, and expected my brother and I to look after him.
Set meal times 6.00am for breakfast, lunch 9.30am, supper 3.15pm and bed 5.00pm.
We managed for nearly 9 months, but could'nt do it any more knackered.
In the care home he is down to 3 litres a week and my brother and I go in day about to take him out for a smoke 7.45am.
had a stroke in July which left him paralyised down hi sleft side and at 87 it isn't getting better quickly.
Filipinos are lovely to him, he doesn't know he is being spoiled!
understand all you have said there simon, as a family we are expectedto care for all but its so hard and thankgod there are people that can and do cope with people , your dad is in good hands

I left my life in Japan to return to UK to take care of my mum & dad. Carina was the one who insisted.
As of now I am still taking care of my dad. Mum passed on 2007.
I do feel obliged, and whatever anyone will tell me I can't help myself.
This is despite having the most awful childhhod. I left home at 17. Couldn't take anymore. Just cannot understand how my mum how/why mum put up with it.
Alcohol was more important to my dad than his family.
I understand how you feel and how you also feel obliged to look after your father.
We control his alcohol by watering it down, but when we go to see him it is not like visiting someone, he has little jobs for us to do such as moving things, tidying the room, cleaning his teeth, shaving him etc.
we laugh about it now and are threatening to get T shirts printed with word "SERF" on them!
forester, my dad is now 90. Have several strokes/heart attacks etc. Pacemaker fitted.
Don't know how he made it so far. But he seems like he will go on forever!!!!!!
