First and foremost Greetings to all the filipinos here,

Hi My Name is Lee Edward P. Calingasan I'm a Registered Nurse in the Philippines and currently I'm here in UK as a student. When I was in the Philippines, an Agent from one of the College's of UK told us that in order for us to work in United Kingdom as a Registered Nurse we must undergo a program called the HND for Health and Social Care NQF 5. after taking this program we will be able to work in your country as a Nurse..

but after arriving here in UK and made the necessary payments I notice some of my friends who has already finish their studies most of them are not a nurse here,.. It would be big help if you can please point me to where will i go from here to become a nurse here. all i ever wanted was to practice and develop my nursing skills in order for me to be more competent and give adequate care to the people.

if the HND course is not the program to become a nurse here i think its only a waste of time to be in the program i would rather go home then.. I really don't know what to do now, I'm lost and i hope you will be able to help me.. tulong po litung lito na ko=(

Hi Perez, welcome to the Forum There is advice elsewhere under VISA + Immigration + Employment section of the Forum, see "UK Employment". The UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (with whom you must register) does point out that "the employment climate in the UK is very changeable" and that "We cannot help you find a job". You say most of your friends who are finished their studies are not a nurse here. I guess you mean working as registered nurses in hospital. However, they may be still employed in care giving occupations, which at least gives them more experience. Don't lose hope !

I was able to read the thread that you posted about working as a nurse here in UK. And you said the NMC requires us foreign nurses a minimum of one year of experience in the hospital setting is needed in order for us to register in NMC. that is a really big problem for me now because after graduating and passing the exams in the Philippines. i was not able work as a nurse because of the over saturation of nurses there. i had an experience working but in a different field thats why when i heard about the program HND studying again will give me an edge here, i rush to it and grab the opportunity ..

and currently im here in UK trying to find a job. my question is can i use my working experience here in UK as a care giver in order for me to register in NMC??

You need to read the NMC booklet "Registering as a nurse or midwife in the United Kingdom", but I think they are strict about the further year's experience in a hospital after graduating in the Philippines. You don't say what your "experience working in a different field" is, but it may not be acceptable. There are detailed instructions in the booklet about applying. Make sure as far as possible whether or not you meet their requirements before deciding to apply and paying their non-refundable administration fee.
The alternative is provided in Terpe's link about health care assistants becoming registered nurses in the UK. Soon nursing is to become an all - graduate profession here, requiring 5 GCSE's and 2-3 A levels. But to do all that might be a daunting prospect for you.

Hi, my name is Emilia and I am foreigner graduated nurse. I went to nursing school from age of 14 to 18. I do not have a bachelors degree. I left to USA and passed NCLEX in states and practiced nursing there in ICU. Now I would like to pursue nursing in England, but don't know how to get started. I really just need to know if nurses in England already have to have BSN degree or if just associate degree is sufficient? Does anybody know how to help me to get started? Thanx

Hi Emilia, welcome to the forum
I guess you have seen the links already provided here.
The NMC do say that they will not accept your application if you are a second level nurse or equivalent, for example an enrolled nurse, licensed practical nurse, vocational nurse, state certified nurse, nursery nurse, nurse midwife technician, nurse aid and so on. Your training programme must have been entirely focused on nursing and the NMC will not accept qualifications that it considers to be general education, or even medical qualifications!
