Registering for a gp in uk

Does anyone know how you go about registering your filipino wife with a GP in the uk..? She dont have any National Insurance Number or health number either?? only been in uk for a few days......

just walk in to your nearest surgery/local doctor and ask the receptionist about the form to fill up to register your spouse,hand the form back to them once filled up and give it to the receptionist,..they will arrange an apoointment for u with the GP..as for the National Insurance u can phone up the Jobcenter

I registered few weeks ago and they asked me for a valid ID (passport) and a proof of address. After that they sent a confirmation of GP registration together with my NHS number. Hope that helps

You're doing the right thing to make registration a priority Terenchion This would avoid a rant from a GP (or more likely the receptionist) if your wife tried to get treatment but was unregistered. Emergency treatment may be possible at A + E (Accident and Emergency) department of the nearest hospital.
You should also consider registration with a dentist for the same reason, but be prepared to go privately. There's not that many NHS dentists available, and a private insurance scheme could be worthwhile.

GP's gave me a hard time registering or moving to a different GP. Guess what? they've asked for my passport and 2 proof of address before they put me on their system! I just got back from the Philippines and no other proof where i live for the last 3 months.

So I told them ive been registered to a different GP before and heres my NHS number so they can have a look at my profile. Because the last time I was here and changed my GP they didnt even asked for anything only the NHS number.

I wasnt very happy because i thought they were getting picky as i am asian and would not have the right to use the NHS!

just do as the others have done passport and if posible some letter like council tax with her name on it showing she lives there too, if not they will give you a temp till you can show something like that, like Alan says get past the recepionist first

Forms obtained from my local GP surgery to register the whole family last week .... a very painless exercise, no proof of address or passports required, but I was with them and we took along passports just in case. NHS numbers received this week. Great service
