Got the CNI in one day...

my fiance and I was able to get the CNI in just one day. The embassy people have been very considerate to us. My fiance's flight was delayed for more than 9 hours and was not able to get the connecting flight to davao last sunday. so he was rerouted to manila monday and we were not able to reach to the embassy on time. there have been misfortunes we have undergone the past days, but we felt very fortunate as we dont nee to rebook our flight to davao because we were able to get the CNI around 4 hours after we apply for it. To God be the Glory! hopefully no more misfortunes now as we are working for our wedding on Nov. 23. Thanks everyone for the infos i got here.

Well at least some good came out of a bad situation.
It's a shame they changed the rules though, as it used to be so simple, when you could always get it the same day...Just adds more stress & inconvenience.

    Good luck! for the 23rd.

    Hi aryM,

This is good news for you and your fiance. I would like to ask you some questions regarding CNI. Did your fiance brought a CNI issued on their country or you just apply directly in the embassy? Did you also get the certificate of legal capacity to marry?

My fiance and I intend to marry on Feb 2011. We may get the same requirements. Thanks in advance..

Hi Febmary, yes my fiance brought a CNI issued from their Registry Office, and that has to be converted to a Philippine Version before applying for marriage. Certificate of Legal Capacity is the US versionof CNI i think, so they are just the same, and so you dont need that legal capacity. Just remember that CNI philippine version will be release 24 hrs after the application has been made. Hope I was able to shed light on this matter. and if you have other questions just feel free to ask. there are lots of us here in forum who are very much willing to help.

Depending when in February you get married? Your fiance will need to apply for his CNI, at his local Registrars. It takes 21 days, before he will receive it.
So he needs to apply for it in December, or at the very latest early January...but don't leave it to chance. He needs to book an appointment, to see them.

    Hi aryM,

Thanks for the reply. I just have this confusion when I went to our Local Civil Registrar (LCR)in our city halll, to ask for requirements to marry a foreigner. They gave me this requirements.

    1. certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage from his diplomatic or consular in the Philippines.
    2. divorce decree/decree of annullment
    3. passport
    4. birth certificate
    5. pre marriage counselling certificate
I hope my understanding is right that they want my fiance to apply the legal capacity in the Philippines and they will not honor the CNI issued in their country. As i know that when you apply here in the Philippines it takes about 21 days to release. Im just afraid coz my fiance will have 1 month to stay here and cant take so long because of work back in Belfast.so scared to think that we might be in a rush and just waiting for 21 days and another 10 days for the marriage license and schedule our wedding.
I remember I read some informations in the website of foreigners marrying here in the Philippines and about this certificate of legal capacity.
I hope somebody can share me what they can think about the scenario.

    thanks again.

    Febmary

Hi again febmary, he has to get a CNI from his local civil registry, it will be posted for 21 days before the registry will release it. This then will be presented to the UK Embassy here in the Philippines. The embassy will give him the CNI (Philippine Version) on the following day that you have applied for it. Just tell your LCR that you're marrying a British not an american. So it has to be a CNI not a certificate of legal capacity. they have different names but they serve the same purpose.

Phew ... it's been a stressful time for you both, Myra. But now you can relax a bit and look forward to your BIG DAY, secure in the knowledge that the formalities have been taken care of. All the very best for the 23rd.

I posted this in another thread...

"My husband and I got married this month and this forum was a big help to us. THANK YOU! My husband applied for his CNI in Bedforshire. When he received his CNI he sent it to me through FedEx and I received it in hmm 2 - 3 days. I then went to the British Embassy in Manila to have it exchanged to the local CNI. Applications are only accepted in the morning. I went back to the embassy the following day to pick up my husband's local CNI. Your fiance needs to bring with her your CNI obtained in the UK, photocopy of your passport, your original birth certificate, her birth certificate in NSO paper, her CENOMAR, and her passport. Releasing of the CNI is done only in the afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30 PM. All documents submitted, except for your CNI obtained in the UK, will be returned. This will save you time and the hassle of going to the embassy after a very long flight. Just make sure that your fiance brings with her a valid ID aside from her passport because she needs to leave it to the guard.

    I hope this helps."
