I snapped these photos at a provincial market in Bohol a few months ago but forgot to post them. Aren't they adorable? For some reason, I always assumed chicks were yellow in color, one of those stereotypes that probably started soon after birth, while watching cartoons on television. At any rate, in my single digits, I was fascinated (but now mortified) whenever I ran across multi-colored chicks at markets or heavily populated shopping areas. Turns out they were dyed green, blue or red -- and meant to entice young brats to whine until their parents got them one. Yikes.

To be honest, I was quite upset to see these chickes dyed different colours just to be used as toys for the kids. When some of the kids had them whenI was there, they were submit to all sorts of cruelty, as well as starved and never watered.
I can see the point of giving them as a pet, or a lesson in raising the animal into something that can eventually be eaten, but just as a toy....... it's not nice. I am not a hypocrite, I do go out shooting birds and rabbits etc etc.... but at least I despatch the animal instantly, I just dont like seeing animals suffer for no reason.

Of course I would never look at them as my wife has a sharp pair of scissors in the house.
