    Crooked Met Detective caged for fiddling expenses

    A counter-terrorism officer was jailed today after conning Scotland Yard out of more than £90,000 in a property scam during the July 7 bombings investigation.

    ... it can ... and often does ... but when alluded to in the present context, it means dishonest - as opposed to any reference to a person's sexual orientation.

    Maybe the only good thing about a story like this is that it makes big news. In many countries dishonest police officers are so common that it does not.

    In UK practically all, if not all, dishonest police officers, correctly so, on conviction are sent to prison and of course they get a very rough time being ex-coppers.

    By the way who arrests and prosecutes dishonest officers?

    Answer: The good guys in the police, but then in a story like this almost no one wants to hear that.

    As a member of the British public, I have complete faith that our police force is one the most, if not the most honest police forces in the world. As you say John, dishonest coppers always go to jail and no doubt get a very hard time there.

    Unfortunately in many parts of the world, particularly the developing world police corruption is accepted and expected
