    Home Secretary statement about immigration

    Family

Last year, the family route accounted for nearly 20% of non EU immigration.

Clearly British nationals must be able to marry the person of their choice but those who come to the UK must be able to participate in society.
From next week we will require all those applying for marriage visas to demonstrate a minimum standard of English. We are also cracking down on sham marriages and will consult on extending the probationary period of settlement for spouses beyond the current two years.

the gov is really now taking the pushing the fees up, new English test, and now this

Needs must Joe - the appalling lack of enforcement over the years means that genuine cases will suffer

for once dedworth i think you will be supporting your mate ed balls

In response Ed Balls for Labour said :-

The permanent secretary revealed today that 9,000 jobs will be lost from the Home Office, the bulk of which will be from the UK Border Agency. Will she confirm that she can implement the policy that she has outlined today, and keep our borders secure, with those cuts? On family reunification she had nothing new to say—no target—and on overseas students she announced no action, just another consultation.

    yes needs must mr dedworth

He's always talked a load of Balls - in a letter she wrote to me in Oct she said they were going to form a dedicated Border Police Force - I hope full of shaven headed ex squaddies lined up with baseball bats as they open up the curtain siders Balls has some neck though it was his shower who are mainly to blame for the current farcical situation.

I hope it's going to be the 9,000 from the Indian Subcontinent currently employed by immigration.

It's their non-English speaking grandmas and grandads, uncles, aunties, cousins, arranged marriagees, etc that have caused the damn problem !!!

    Stupid stupid governments !

None of these actions are really going to solve the problem, it will show the public they are taking action and keep them happy, but thats it.
Immigration is a good thing, in general, it brings diversity and skills. The problem is we seem to be encouraging too many of the wrong people into the UK with our ridiculous welfare state system and imbalance of rights favouring ethnic minorities.
We should be bringing in skills, and people who contibute to the country. We should also be bringing in a similar level of people to the amount who emigrate. The country will reach saturation if it continues like this.
There are plenty more places in Europe, with more space to accomodate those who are hard up, but they choose to go past the whole of Europe and come to England, why? Well we all know why.
