    Hello steed44,
Welcome to the forum, I see you are in Manchester at the moment.
You would of course find the Philippines a lot more pleasant than our cold temputure at the moment!
    Have you been there yet?
    Mick

Getting on your trusty "steed" ... and pursuing your dreams, eh? In theory, it's not a bad ... and I'm willing to wager there are quite a few of us on here who've "upped-sticks" and done just that. But best to consider every aspect fully, before making any firm decisions. to the forum ... and be guided by others' experience.

Hi steed 44, welcome to the forum
One day very soon I will relocate to Phils.
So at least we have one thing in common.
Just to get your think juices going, how old are you??
Do you have a UK income stream??
Can you manage financially in Phils?? I would suggest think about min P50,000 to
    P100,000 per month
Please try not to consideremployment or business unless.........
Anyway, ask any questions you want... I would never try to be negative on your dream.
But would never want you to be in difficulty in Phils.
    God Bless

i somewhat agree with you but at least 40k per month is needed to survive in the city. that is based from my monthly expenses considering that i live in a condo, pay for monthly personal bills and purchase basic needs (food, etc).

    Hi steed,
I'm sure you will like it here. My stepfather who is a British moved here 18 years ago and have never been back to the UK. Though he got some properties that are on let. The town they living in with my mama just turned into city. But the cost of living, since it is in beautiful island of Cebu is low are between 15,000-20,000. But if you will be driving and going away a lot during weekends to keep you busy then it will be 40,000-100,000 depends on your lifestyle of course.

Life in the city can be expensive, crowded, noisy and hmmm polluted too whereas 2-3 hours from the city can be a total paradise.

Employment is not a good idea here, business is subjective and depends on what you are passionate about but consider not doing it as it can be so risky.
A friend of mind is with her partner for some years now and they built a house in one of the subdivisions here with great view and a pool. The business they do is they invite europeans to stay in their place at cost for lodging, food etc which can be long periods or short. They act as tour guides as well, taking them to various beautiful places and islands. So I think it is one of those safe business, like building an apartment and rent it out, or guesthouse, online related work.

I've seen how my parents struggled business and investment failures here and it is a good eye opener to me specially I am married to my loving husband whom I truly care about.

Stay with this forum and you will surely get some more ideas about moving to Philippines.
    Life as we make it

    Hi Steed welcome
It's a forum, with a lot of differing views, with members from all walks of life, but we all have a common connection & it works. So, yes you will be able to glean plenty of information here.

It's very difficult to say how much money you would need a month, to live in the Philippines?
Members here often throw around figures, but it really depends on your personal circumstances & tolerance levels? ...Have you got a wife, gf, partner, kids etc.
Which Island are you going to live on...makes a big difference? City or province?...Do you need aircon, or can you manage without? Nippa hut, or a luxury apartment, with views over Manila Bay etc. etc...These aren't questions personally directed at you, just hypothetical & ones we all need to ask ourselves if considering a move over there.

Your best bet, if you haven't already spent time out there, is to stay for 6 months if you can, living at your comfort level....that should give you an idea.

Remember, everybody in the UK, is living on very different income levels, so the Philippines is no different....though you have to take in considerations, like there is no free health care, over there.

    Food for thought

That is way too much to live on Terpe for a basic living unless you do shopping and traveling every week or every day?
