I nearly wrecked three new cars today..!

I used to take a keen interest in road safety, I learned that, drivers who have accidents, tend to have the same 'type' of accident again and again..!

Some years ago whilst driving in snow and ice I had this accident in Woking where I drove round a bend to the right. What happened was I turned the steering wheel to the right (to go round the bend) my front wheels lost grip and I continued in a forward direction...and ploughed into a wall!

And today I was driving in snow and ice in Epsom, I came to a bend to the right, I turned the wheel to the right, my front wheels lost grip...and I (very nearly!) ploughed into three brand new cars which were parked at a car sales place called Wilsons! And it was close, because some onlookers were like "oooh that was this close mate!"

It seems true that drivers who have accidents...seem to have the same type of accident!

I failed to anticipate that I would lose steering control when I went round the bend!

    6 — Plane of Forces
    5 — Astral Plane
    4 — Mental Plane
3 — Too mysterious to describe.
2 — Too mysterious to describe.

Can't that big jellyfish thing that surrounds you act like a giant airbag and protect you from crashes

... take care, Nigel; the main thing is you were unscathed ... if somewhat shaken!

Use gears rather than brakes to slow you down, then gentle pressure on brake

we all should take care drive according to the road and just slow down and leave that space between all, you will still get the idiots driving still, all our friends just be carefull, make sure you have wellingtons thick coats high vis if possible and a shovel and get a big bag of salt or road grit in your boot also , may never used them but mau save your life one day, and always take some food in a bag crispes chocolate just incase, and loo paper, or for our ladies a scope

Have you tried to slow down to match the condition? You test braking distance on a quiet clear stretch of road.

I always test it out too, nice bit of clear road just try bit of braking, turning sharply to see how car responds so as to get a fell of how you will do in slippy conditions

Maniac Nigel had better stay out of my way - just tried out my new car on a bit of clear road with hardpacked snow - the ABS and ESP work fine you keep sliding in a straight line

drive to the road conditions..if you think your going slow enough when drivin in ice or snow..then just slow down a little bit more on top of that then you'll be fine Nigel!!

I'm the same, nice bit of open/clear road with lots of snow on it, rear wheel drive car, plenty of gas, great for practising power slides and skid control
Seriously, everyone needs to know how their car handles in a skid and how to correct it, this isn't a boy racer stunt, it might help me out in an emergency
