Anybody here already sent a UK plasma or LCD TVs to Philippines? Did it work? Do you need to re-channel it to NTSC? Or did you anybody bought those so called tuner converter. I am planning to sent my 42in plasma but worried that conversion to ntsc may not be possible.
what make is your tv?, most decent brands will display most different tv formats, what are you going to watch on it... philipino tv will be wasted on it unless you like the snowy effect.
have a look for your model number and check it does diplay ntsc.

It's LG. Sometimes it doesn't say anything, not even PAL system. I will try to look at the model and search LG if their TVs are multisystem. I will try to have a powerfull antena or connect to cable. Ops, not cable, as UK TVs are not cable ready. So I might need a cable box.
I intend to take my sony bravia over sometime soon, I'm not sure what it runs, obviously PAL, but I need it to run my xbox on it

Philippines is a third world country but TVs are all multisystems and cable ready, no need for cable boxes. But the downside is that LCDs and Plasmas are sometimes more expensive than here in the UK.Globalization.
TV prices have fallen through the floor recently. The other day I saw a LG 100Mhz Full HD 42 inch LCD for under £400, even some of the newer LED TV's are under £500 for a 40 inch screen now

I wouldnt mind taking a decent TV over but even with a HD telly I think the picture quality in the boonies is hit-and-miss

LCD can safely be shipped in any position, plasma is much more sensitive.
Plasma TV should really be shipped upright.
Signs such as 'fragile' and 'this way up' just don't cut the mustard I'm afraid.
The glass is very heavy and is prone to high flexing (at best) which damages the circuitry (which is very close to the screen), too much strain on the glass will definitely lead to cracking.
If you have a very special plasma TV that you absolutely must ship then better to contact a specialist shipping company.
Regarding the system, if the TV is less than 2 or 3 years old it will almost certainly be
capable of accessing PAL and NTSC and be suitable for 50Hz and 60Hz.(check the tech specs)
Englishman2010 is spot on, the prices in Phils these days are much cheaper than they were and the price is really falling now. Often comparable or better than UK

Plasma tv to the Phil ?, i dont think so. You can try sending one to me, though.
Send it in a wooden crate. the cardboard ones will not be sturdy enough.
Personal choice for me is samsung tv's. Sony until very recently has very flaky quality control with lots of clouding on screen.Originally Posted by Tawi2

i have just bought an lcd tv this week in manila. up to 32 inch and he prices are not too different to home. over that and the prices are silly. all lcd plasma these days are multi system as far as i know
The Japanese Sony are the expensive ones in the Phils (imported).
Local Sony are cheaper.
I would sell yours and buy locally.
I often bought second hand/garage sale stuff over there for next to nothing...expats leaving.
Cable in the cities is good enough quality in the Phils.
Looks like the Philippines will adopt the ISDB-T of Japan as DVB-T of Europe license did not go through. I hope they are the same.
Interesting. Wonder why they opted for that over the ATSC standard.
I believe the reason Philippines adopted ISDB is that it is very cheap license if not free while DVB and ASTC are more expensive licenses. Japanese electronics is in demand in Asia could one of the reasons.
