can anyone tell me if there is a new law in the philippines for getting married to a foreigner? my hubby's friend just had his holiday and supposed to get married but because the girl says there is new law and poor guy didnt hav the correct paper etc.. his fiacee told him that he has 2 hav a proof that his plan of getting married should be advertise here in uk.
please can anyone tell us please?

This may be a reference to the CNI. In order to get married in the Phils he will need a Certificate of no impedement, this is valid for 3 months from date of issue, and prior to that notice is placed here in the UK for 21 days stating that he is marrying. After the 21 day period he will be issued with the CNI which he has to take to the Embassy in Manila and replace it with the Phils version.
The CNI is issued and shows that the person is free to marry.
For example I am divorced , but without the CNI they dont know that i may have remarried again.

I was surprise to hear that he was not able to get married because he did not have this proof that he advertise in newspaper here in uk.
So me and wife doubted his fiancee. coz this is not the first time she says things unusual..sorry cant discuss it.
anyway we want to know if there is such a new law in philippines???

I think it's the 'calling of the banns' by the prospective bridegroom here in the UK that is being referred to. Notice displayed in local Registrar Office here.
Has to be public for 3 weeks I believe, to allow anyone here to object if they want (like existing wife !) then certificate of non-impediment can be issued here.
That's what I did 19 years ago to get my CNI anyway, so certainly not new. (I was single).

sounds a bit strange to me, my wedding was 2 months ago here, i got my local cni, took my divorce certificate, passport and i think that was it. i really hope for his sake its a genuine missunderstanding, the only thing id ask him is why he didnt go to the local town hall and ask there.
If you're single though, as I was, you don't have a divorce certificate...or any means of showing that you're free to marry, hence the calling of the banns, which in theory gives someone (ie an existing wife) chance to object.
dont believe its a law, they suggest that you should post your intention on getting married. on the 'marriage in the philippines' doc from the embassy it says.

"We would suggest that you advertise your notice of marriage in a leading English newspaper. Notify the British High Commission, who in turn will notify the British Embassy Manila. Below is a sample of a newspaper advertisement:
I, (FULL NAME), British Citizen currently residing at (FULL ADDRESS) hereby give notice of my intention to marry (FULL NAME OF FIANCEE), a (CITIZENSHIP OF FIANCEE) in (PLACE OF MARRIAGE) on (DATE OF MARRIAGE). I hereby give notice that if anyone raises legal objection to the proposed marriage on the grounds of incapacity of either party of other lawful impediment, then such objection must be communicated with the British High Commission in ….. or the British Embassy, Manila (Tel No: 00632.858.2200) within 21 days from the date of this publication.
Note: Please include the address and the telephone number of the British High Commission here."
That's ok if you know when and where you're going to get married.
If you use the Registrar office method you'll be given a copy of the CNI at the end of 3 weeks, then you get it notorised by your solicitor and marry when and where you want. ...unless things have changed.
