    I'll ask my boy.

I bought him a very posh Laptop last summer for passing his GCSEs, but needless to say, I'm not allowed anywhere near it and have to still use my battered old steam-powered desktop monstrosity...which is also nearly full.

Pictures don't take up much space. Try removing some of the programs you don't use and see if that will make a difference. Not sure what else I can think of.

13gb of pics ?? You must have a lot of porn

Seriously though, don't know what else to suggest apart from going to add/remove programs on the control panel to see what programs are taking up a lot of space, emptying your recycle bin, or defragging.

Another idea is to right click on the folders of your C drive that may contain photo's then select properties. This will tell you how much space is being used.

HI Steve try this program its free and simple to use. Does your Wife and you chat a lot on ym etc? It may be you are saving loads of archives? Also you may have lots of temp files which have been used but have no deleted.

    http://www.diskcleaner.nl/

    Download page

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dclean/

Now please be careful using and read and reread what your about to delete.

ANy questions ask on here and im sure someone will be able to advise

Best to delete less at first temp files are normally safe bets and also it gives a basic indication of what is possibly taking up room

Also from experience what Anti virus and spyware do you use occasionally some malware takes up huges amount of space.

Do you use Firefox or Google chrome check th edownloads folder in my documents as many users i know have found huge amount of files and documents they downloaded stored in there.
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

Also try to use CC cleaner. its a free program you can download that cleans your hard rives properly. I set mine to NSA clean which wipes your hard drive 7 times. When you delete files you only delete the file name and path not the file itself. CC cleaner will delete the file. After that run your disk optimiser to group everything together on the disk drive. this will speed up the machine.

This now ends everything that i know about computers, which I'm sure someone will point out to me is wrong!!
    It's been emontional

If you are using BBC iPlayer it stores a lot of stuff that isn't picked up by ccleaner - my laptop was forever giving me warings that the disc was nearly full and I finally freed up a massive amount by digging into these iPlayer files - I think in the end I uninstalled then reinstalled it.

    Get a 32GB pen drive....

Right-click on Recycle Bin>Properties and select Custom Value, enter 250 and Apply. Then reboot, this will shrink the space it uses and free up a bit of space.

    RAM woman:
She forgets about you, the moment she's turned off.

Hmm, now that has got me thinking.

Looking down at my computer brings to mind the notion that owners and dogs often tend to resemble one another, or in this case...computers.

    Suggestions please.

A laptop was all I had when I first started. It lasted 3 years. The reason I got rid was because it became so slow. I paid £650 in 2006. The shop wanted £150 to bring back up to the original speed. I decided it wasn't worth it, as I could replace it like for like for £300. I didnt bother in the end, Jane being more clue'd up than I on these issues, no surprise there! Suggested getting an all singing and dancing computer, which we did. The obsolete laptop well, I did an insurance number on that one, and got a very nice replacement, thank you very much. It turns out my insurer had been taking me for a ride for years. Had it not been for that claim I would never have found out. So, make sure you compare your insurance's every renewal.
